I have 75g, 55g,20g FW n 40g, 50g SW tanks in basement finished, room 15x25.Was thinking about adding a dehumidifier...Why? Reduce moisture n smell. Yes I know smell is from cichlid tank canister filter got love'm quiet but hate'm change filter padsout pain.

I am setting one up in my fish room. I set it to like 45% humidity and let it go. You can get ones with a built in drain.

I'm in CT (similar weather to NJ) and I only really need to run a dehumidifier during the humid Summer months in my basement fish room. If you have to run it much more than that I'd suggest ventilation in the room is insufficient.

especially in a basement I see nothing but good benefits of adding a dehu, especially if you can plumb it to a floor drain

My fish room is in my basement as well. I run a dehumidifier that drains to the floor sump. I set mine and it kicks on and off.

I have a delonghi at home (unrelated to tank) that has a built in pump and uses 1/4 in poly line to drain itself. Rather handy when a drain in the floor isn't readily available.

Thanks for everyone's input. I have a sump in the basement floor and I run my water changes to it as well. So it sounds like a good idea at least in the summer time.

Dehumidifier thoughts???

For whatever reason if I don't use the pump or drain on any dehumidifier I have ever had the collected water tends to be kinda funky. I think the condensation coils collect dust and then the water that forms on them carries the dust along for the ride. I don't think I would run it into my sump.

Frigidaire makes a good one. I don't use it all the time, but when I need it (basement sump near a library) I need it. DIdn't cost much.
