Desaster after such a great day!

Wow guys, great resourcefulness getting things back under control. My hat's off to Manny for helping with the repair.

Andrea, since there's 250g of acrylic sitting in my living room I feel compelled to ask: How old is that tank, who made it, and what thickness of acrylic did they use? That busted seam looks very rough to me, like it was never properly bonded to begin with.

Oh, and if you need any more clamps, I have 4 that you're welcome to borrow if you want to spread out the clamping pressure a little more.

The same thought occurred to me Rogger, then I remembered that the canopy would have to be re-cut to fit. Not too big of a chore just time consuming. But if it's going to get done, do it now while you're not using the lights anyway.

Jeff, the tank is probably no more than 2 years old, I got it from a friend, so I'm not 100% sure. It was made by Sealife Systems, they where taken over by Pro Clear. Spoke to them yesterday and they said it is written in their manuals, that an Acrylic tank with Metal Halides is not covered under any warranty and generally is not a recommended combination.

We glued an additional 2" strip of Acrylic across the back, that should help holding it together.

In the meantime I will be looking around for a new set up, I am definitely not going through this again!

wow that sucks andrea, looks like frankentank with all the clamps bricks and sheets. Hope everything works out i know you have alot of pretty stuff!

We took the clamps and bricks off last night and it seems to be holding.

This morning, however, the sump was overflowing, there is another leak yet, somewhere around the overflow box. Not noticable when the pump is running, but since we had it shut off, it had all night to leak out.

I am thoroughly disgusted with this tank, hopefully it lasts until I find a better one. I don't want to do it in a hurry though.
