DFason's 35g Shallow SPS Build

Nice looking tank I like the rock work, that is the style I will be going for in my new tank.

Keep up the great work.

Few updates....

I have a new skimmer on the way A110-F2000 external! Should be in Monday along with a smaller return pump. I was tired of micro bubbles so I went with the slower gph. The Eheim 1250.

I'll post new growth shots and skimmer shots Monday!

-Dave

Updates!

Well the new skimmer rocks and is huge! It was already skimming stuff after 30 minutes. The new pump makes it so there are zero microbubbles and I dont need a filter sock.

Yes I have web toes ;)

I hope to get a new camera soon because ALL of my pictures are washed out or suck! The true colors are AMAZING now.

Also this past weekend I helped move a friend of mine who has an awesome 70g. Everything went well I I now have a frag of War Coral and 24K Acro too!

I have the same problems with my tank looking very blue in photos. One thing that seemed to help was playing with the white balance on the camera. Although for me, I don't have an SLR (Canon S3IS).

Super jealous of those fishies , It's tough for us to get them in fl I guess because the heat does not treat them well on the way here .

And love the aquascaping , the depth is misleading ( looks like my 24 deep )

You are a straight shooter with upper management written all over you dave.

Versus - haha thanks man! I had 10 but they are HORRIBLE in our tanks. I started a thread a while ago to see if anyone else has had any success but no go.

The aquascaping is super simple. Three rocks, planned it so if I had to move it would be WAY easier.

Who do you play for down in FL?

I think in most tanks the success of keeping them can be low , I know the "blue lagoon" ( was a japanese tank ) had managed to keep them for 13 months until a tank crash . You are actually pretty lucky 7 out of 10 ( even if its lower than that now ) .

I can give you what information I know about them , Life span is around a year to 17 months . But they are fairly fast breeders , unfortunately from reports it seems in a lot of cases some how the egg sack kills off the females . Most blame it due to diet but have not found the correct one . People who have managed to keep them semi successfully tend to feed them little amounts A LOT anywhere from 8 to 15 times a day . not sure how they fair at breeding in captivity fully though

They are so much cheaper in japan too ( not sure how much you paid , when i check prices here its about 15 each if you can find them , of course some have tried to do a rip off cause they are "rare" .. 25 bucks a fish *a lot die from harvesting because of being so fragile ).

I worked at paintball world for 4 years ( old home of the world cup ) and played on the jax warriors in the late 90's . I still follow the sport and watch tbd / fierce / pbv practice from time to time at cfp but its just too much money unless you have decent sponsorships . And since I took a nice 6 year break i am afraid the best I could do is a d3 team . It is amusing to me though to see people like ollie , baines heck even dave youngblood still being involved in the sport considering where it came from .

Oh only if i would of kept my old jerseys ,venomwear , straps .. i would be rolling in the cash. I'd be back in the sport but , im not a candidate for eye surgery , and I cannot stand contacts ( my eye sight is bad because of wearing them in the past ) so i had written them off . And being back every since i started with the paraplegic turtles , bad eye sight i just cannot read the field anymore .

Good thing is I can see fish tanks just fine :) , Good luck with those red spots I will keep checking to see how they are working out for you .

And im glad you guys havent quit :) Let me know if you go to cup this year I will stop by and say hi . trade some frags lol.

But yeah your aquascape is pretty nice its like a mini sunnyx's :) . to many people try to over complicate rock work , or just add a big wall , which isnt bad but not enough flow gets behind them..

Just needing a little help.

Some of my colors are looking a little washed out. I am not dosing anything and only doing weekly water changes.

My Purple monster and Pearlberry are really washed out. Do you guys think that since everything has been growing out it maybe time to start to dose 2 part?

Maybe my new skimmer pulling more out?

-Dave

Well here are some updated shots...

I am really trying to get a friend over to snap some pictures with a nice macro lens.

Well the new fish is a Sailfin Golden Blennie. By far one of my favorites too! Really has some amazing eyes, neon orange with blue dots.

I am looking at getting a Reefkeeper Lite being that there only 99$ all summer. Also going to try and find another 6055. I should be getting my multicontroller here in the next few weeks.

Wow, your tank has really taken off! The corals are growing and everything looks healthy.

Great job!

Thanks Sonny - means alot!

I wish my Purple Monster was doing better but I guess that part of the hobby.

My Pearlberry was looking HORRIBLE for a while and lost most color. Now its bouncing back so who knows. I'll be excited to get another 6055 and the RKL this summer. Other than that I'm just letting things take there course. Its only been 3 months!

-Dave

All I can say is WOW. I finally feel like I snapped some good pictures ( I used a different camera).

The Vortech is the best piece of equipment I have ever bought! I have it on 100% reefcrest mode and LOVE it. My tank looks clean and the corals are already happy.
