Digital Aquatics Archon Owners Thread

Christmas came early as I purchased an Archon. I should have it this week. I am looking for suggestions from experienced users as to the best way to move programming from my current RKE system to the Archon and how best to transition between the two systems. Very excited to get this new technology. Thanks for your input.

I assume you are getting the head unit with power pack. You can power up the head unit with the power pack to setup the head unit to your wifi network before you hook it to your system. You can hook the Archon up in place of the RKE head unit once any NET modules and RD1 modules have been removed. You will have to reprogram everything into the new Archon. There is no way to transfer any programming between them. Make sure you have plenty of time set aside for doing the actual switch. The only issue may be the PC4's. In some cases they have had to have a interuppted update on them before running on the system.

Thanks for the advice and guidance. I have a router and switch close to where I have the RKE so I'll connect the Archon directly to that and forego the wireless. I take it in the setup is where you establish the login, password and email settings.

I suggest u take the time to do the interrupt update as suggested above. Directions can be found on DA support page under hints and tips I think. Good luck I made, the switch from RKE to Archon and love it.

Thanks for the info guys. Does all the updating happen within the Archon or do you still use the SID?

As of today the archon will not update your other modules. Butt what I believe they are anticipating as they will not need to be updated any further. In the two years I have had mine I have not needed to update the modules.

For now if you need to update a module for some reason you will have to use the SID and myReef. That said I have not updated a modules since using the Archon. Some have had to do an interrupted update on their PC4's to clear out all the pogramming on them.

Ok I'll see what I run into when I start the set up. But to confirm I do the interrupted update within the Archon correct?

If your PC4 doesn't show up or take any programming in the Archon, then you'll have to do the interrupted update via MyReef and the SID. I would suggest keeping your SID and RKE head unit as a backup. I've the past couple years I've had my Archon I've had to fall back on my ReefKeeper while troubleshooting the Archon.

Good advice. I was going to pull the NET module off-line and keep the head unit mounted and not connected. I can jumper in the Archon at my Hub Module.

I still have my head unit mounted but not connected. I just connected the buss line that was goint to it to the Archon. Note like the RKE if you want your modules in a certain order then hook them up one at a time to the Archon in that order. If order is not a problem the hook up the Archon in place of the head unit once it is powered up on it's supply.

Eric said the Archon should ship out tomorrow which means I should have by the end of the week. Hopefully I'll have time to set it up this weekend.

I have two things I'm hoping for some input on. First one is logging into the Archon. Mine has been set up and running for over a month now, so that is good, however it is also good I don't need to access it often. Whenever I go to the page all I get it a password required. It doesn't give me the option to enter my user name and password. I have to go around to the three or four different browsers on my phone trying to find one that'll let me in. Usually it requires me deleting all the history/temp files/cookies to let me log in. There has got to be a way to solve this I would think? Because otherwise it is incredibly frustrating.

My second thing, does anyone use the AP1 with their Archon or have a different method to monitor humidity? I'd like to use my Archon to control a fan, however everything I've read shows the AP1 not being very reliable. Hard to spend that kind of money on something that will often need replacing.
