Diy led

How funny is it before you edited your post I did go back to do the math :)
Not because I didn't believe you, but because I wanted to make sure I understood the math.

Thanks again to both of you. You have helped me wrap my head around this project and I feel alot better about doing it now.

So just out of curiosity, Do you guys have a dedicated circuit (w/outlet)for these lights (or light controller)or just plugged in to your surge protector along with everything else.

Does make it more comfortable understanding it. Thats what I had hoped for.

allo all the ballast they have been shiping are 100w 4.2 amp 15-20v

I thought they were 85W...that supports the 4.2A and 20V. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they put out 24v but it would be nice to know.

when u test them they put out a constant 20v

how to test it wired in

1 of 2 ways but if you're already connected its a bit of a pain:

(1)you can temporarily wire in a 1 ohm resistor at the end of a string so its part of the string. Then simply measure the voltage across the resistor. I=V/R and since the resistor is 1ohm your meter should read around 0.7V when measured across the resistor. Whatever it reads is equal to the current.

or

(2) The other way requires unsoldering a connection between 2 of the leds. Then remove your Red (positive) lead from your meter and plug it into the 10A socket. This you need a helper for now. make the connection between the LEDs with the meter and have the helper power on the driver. That will give you actual measurement of current. If you do this and slip off the LED then power down the driver before trying again.

Either one of these should be done while assembling typically so you can verify the current or in the case of the meanwell adjust the current.

If you do feel like doing and have any questions let me know but I won't blame you if you don;t want to.

I guess it's my turn to jump in the DIY LED world. I made the frame out of 1 piece of aluminum and picked up the bulbs, power supplies, and optics today. Waiting on the 2-part epoxy now.

The square scribes are for (55) royal blues and circles are for (99) 18K.

Very nice frame...I'm guessing you didn't do that by hand :) Did you do it, or have it made? I'm picking up my LED, etc tomorrow, and I'm still trying to decide on what to do for the frame.

That is beautiful work.....very nice looking! Where'd you have that done and how much...or a range of how much :)

very professional job you did on that frame.

Thanks...I did make it myself. I just hope the end result will give me as good growth as I am used to with MH and VHO.

brassmonkyballs - thanks for the usefull information - i will be saving that for later!

I will say you guys are lucky if you are getting that channel for $2/ft. I went online and it says $2.85 + $40 shipping to other coast!

If anyone bought too many of these or is planning to order more in the next month or so, please let me know. i would like a few more, but well under the min required. I should have ordered more the first time! I will pay the flat rate box shipping from you to me.

Any chance you could have one ready tomorrow morning for pick up...I have the same tank, so should be an easy copy/paste, right :) ...again great job!

Super nice job !
What are some dimensions of the frame ? I see it is for a 180G.
How thick is the aluminum ? is it channel or a bent and cut sheet or ??
