Diy led

Wow that looks great! Are your ballast dimmable? You using white and blue LED's? If so what ration are you using?

Terry , The color temp of each LED is 18000-20000K , so we may not need any blur LEDs . We may add some blue LEDs later , just for Dusk-Dawn viewing

What is your estimated expenses for each of you? Just curious.

3W 700mA $ 1.27 or few cent less..
18000-20000k 220lm 3.2v 60 degree

power supply : $ 39.00.. It can run up to 88 LEDs (11 in series 8 in parallel)
(no dimming)

and plus shipping fee.

C channel aluminum $ 2.00 per foot (local metal store)

few Arctic Alumina terminal adhesive $ 6

stainless nut & bolts,

just in case if need blue LED
3W 700mA Blue is $0.97, 25-30lm

just FYI, I have used the SEMI leds like you guys are using and always keep spares around because they tend to just burn up. Looks very good btw

some update...

Wow nice build. You are probably going to have to dim those waaaay down though. I did 48 3 watt cree led on my 90 and can't run over about 30% without bleaching/ irritating most of my corals( they were used to 260 watts cfl). Awesome set up, just be careful.

I just came back from Jae's house. Wow. So bright and the perfect color. Just a hint of blue not the normal white ,white. We may not need any actinic supplementation.I just cleaned my heat sinks and will be gluing them this weekend. I will be running ether 88 or 166 leds on my tank.

wow that looks great! Really interested in seeing how it will look over the tank and what kind of colors you will get out of them.
Do they have a ballast that powerful that is dimmable? Or are they ridiculously priced?

Nice work- I just bought the 57g (36" long) from Chris and I'm thinking of doing something like this for the tank... Whats a good place to buy the parts, this would be my first project...
