So which led driver can power 88 of these 3W leds that you mention at the beginning of this thread? Gonna run a 80 led fixture like yall built.

This is fantastic!!! I'm gonna have to do this! Thanks to Joseph for turning my attention to this. I'm just worried about too much par now and scorching my coral.

check out my DIY work in progresss. I'm going to make mine look a bit more cleaner by drilling holes anf running the wires on the top of the C-channel alloy. I have solar tubes in my tank that is why I have the big gaps in between the cross bars. The frame will be on a pulley that I will be able to higher or lower. This is what it will look like with some LEDs on the frame.

lots hole to drill
please keep post your DIY work in progress

if u try to run 30 leds on the 85w ballast u wont be able to run them at 700 ma as it will be pulling over the 4.2 amp load 700ma=3/4 amp

Would any of you happen to have some spare 60-80 degree optics that I could borrow? I have 12 cree XR-E LEDs right now over my 10g. I'm considering adding some more to my current LED fixture but I'd like to check the par after adding some optics to them first. Just pm me if you can help out. Thanks.

I have lots spare optic lens,
but won't fit on creeXR

I wonder if I would be able to attach them temporarily (even with just some tape) just to check for spotlighting and see what the par would be.

Is this over the 10 gallon tank? optics, even the 80's will burn everything in there unless you're lights are way up high. have you measured the par already with no optics?

for reference, i took a ton of measurements with my own tank. at a depth of 20" from the lights (11" underwater, 9" from waterline to light) and using 60 degree optics, i measured 561 par at roughly 500 mA.
