DIY LEDs with Radion Pro G2 pucks?

How did you organize the design of the harness though? How did you find the manufacturer?

Also, does anyone else need some gen1 puck harnesses?! haha

DIY LEDs with Radion Pro G2 pucks?

I emailed like 4 providers got lucky and one mailed it back. They shipped me a sample harness (me paying for shipping) and after two tries was able to get it done right

The provider created the drawings based on my specs

I think I went about this the wrong way in not looking for some of the sets mentioned here. I went ahead and figured I'd try the new Borealis Luxeon's so picked up 2. My only concern is regarding the LED layout. They appear to be in rows of color rather than mixed.

Either way I will be setting it up here in a bit to see how they look and still waiting for the dimmer expansion for my reef angel.

Yeah the Borealis is exactly what I hate about the LED industry, trying to force products on us telling us "It's good this is what you need" instead of listening to what people say they want. Not sure I've seen terribly many builds who were like "Oh I want a ton of limes in it!" but sure enough you get 12 LEDs all lime. Also not happy with forcing reds into a place on the array, oh good you violet ("UV") leds... now I can have my actinic time... oh wait you threw all the reds on that same exact channel too well that kind of ruins that idea.

It seems that most of their products are copies of others, they have the triple pucks making clones of AI Sols, they have the Auroras which are basically Radions (that strangely enough cost more than the replacement G3 pucks... perhaps they're the "Pro" version?). Now they come out with something new, which I applaud, and it seems like they just try to cram as much crap as possible, and Bill "Who needs more than 4 channels" Gates thinking (yeah I know that's a myth), and damnit if they aren't expensive considering they don't have optics for the thing. It might be good for a wide angle thing though.

Oh well, don't mean to badmouth the product that you got, just was not happy with the direction they went on it.

I agree with some of your complaints - and I'm not sold on the lime LEDs yet (for my own builds - will probably wait until they are developed more), but they are the only LED that I know of so far that hits that 550 peak mark (which to my understanding will help the overal intensity appear more bright and help it appear closer to the non LED technologies). I too was surprised they used so many limes, and in the format. But thier layout was most likely based on simplicity and lower cost manufacturing in mind. I assume it'll still make a good colored fixture, though - obviously as you say: a wide angle fixture, which is what I did with my radion pucks anyway.

Other LEDs hit 550 just fine, it might not be the dominant peak, but just about every white LED will get the same response. In fact looking at data sheets for Cree, the lime looks like a cool white LED without the blue peak.

I mean I kind of get what they're doing with allowing you to tune in that "green" zone to your liking to make it "look better" (whatever that really means) but seems like an odd way to go about doing it.

anybody???

Sorry to be "that" guy but please read through the thread. Many different combos and builds have been talked about and posted. The choice of drivers and how you wire everything is really entirely up to you.

I've personally gone back through this thread at least five times to find info I recall reading but don't remember the exact details, it's all there just takes some effort.

You didn't, and it is fine :) After I picked up the two is when it got me thinking and looking around a bit more. Everything can be reused in regards to the LDD's I'm using and the power supply and I'll be dimming / controlling each channel. Maybe it will be fine in the end.

If not, then I'm not out too much money.

I'm building my diy fixture but haven't received TIR lenses.

Someone can tell me accurate diameter of the lenses ?
