Do sick anemones recover?

I bought a purple tip anemone on Saturday afternoon. It looked great in the LFS. I put it into my tank and it seemed to be happy.

I left home on Sunday night at 18h00 and it still looked great. I returned home at 23h00 and got a big shock. It looked like it was dead. It was a quarter of the size, its tenticals were mostly flat and shrivled up. It was very swollen around its mouth.

I moved it to a higher rock and hoped for the best. This morning it is still alive and seems to be recovering. His tenticals have started to fatten up again but its still swollen around the mouth. My clownfish have now started to play in its tenticals

My question:
Are anemone as able to recover?
 
well from what ive seen. (2 weeks in my first rose anemone) mine shrunk up to nothing the first nite i had it. lights came on in the morning and i got up and it was full again.. again tonight its all shrivled up but when i kick the lights on it will fill up.. I believe they will expel there water alot for the first few days or ever. not sure. I wouldnt get to upset over it. mines has moved 3 times already but it did manage to take in some shrimp today that i fed it. gl.:strooper:
 
If it was shrunken up and swollown around its mouth its very possible it was not sick but just going to the bathroom, However if it is sick with TLC it will recover just make sure your anemone is being fed and has plenty of light, with my exp Anemone's can take awhile to be happy in a new home and find there happy spot it is alot of patience and dedication when you get one of these creatures, Good luck :)
 
Thanks... I am please to say that it has recovered over the last few hours. In fact, it looks better than when I bought it.

I am very happy that it is alright........
 
was it a whole peice of silverside or chopped up small ones? Anemones do better with very small peices I feed mine fresh uncooked frozen shrimp shelled and thawed peices about the size if you can imagine if you take a pencil eraser and cut it into 4 about 3 times a week so once every other day, Silversides are great but not all anemone's like them, you may want to also consider Selcom for extra vitamins to help him right now especially with a new home
 
When softies are first introduced to new water, they may do a total purge to balance out their tissues, for all I can guess about what triggers the process: probably cellular imbalance with the surrounds.
