It's insect net for window and then I sewed some elastic on both side. It will keep it in place of the power head tight, but very easy to remove it for cleaning. I rinse it every week when I do my regular wc. The best part is it will not decrease the flow. Sadly I couldn't find the net in black color. Sorry for the bad English .

Bad English? Many Americans can't speak English that well.

Thanks for posting that here.

I like where this thread is going!

The screen looks awesome, I wonder how easily it will clog? The acrylic front and back cover is slick on that one!

Would love to find a mesh with 1/8" squares made from acrylic.

I like this screen better. I'm fixing to design something nice. It will be H. Mag and S. Gig Proof! :-) This can be used in the QT as well. We could make heater covers, intake guards for HOB filters (aquaclear). The possibilities are endless. I just have to get a good design drawn out.

I'm thinking about this size:

I think this is a good PH size.

This one I'm gonna build a small guard around my return pump. I don't like the sponge filter.

This one may be the best for the PH. Small enough to keep the Nems out, but big enough to let trash get through so you don't have to clean the screen every day.

Where can you buy the mesh in your last pic please

I'm building my design for the Jebao WP25's. I'm the 0.28" 12 hole mesh- Epoxy coated- Stainless Steel wire mesh above (middle pic). If they're Epoxy coated, I believe they will be reef safe. Don't use anything that's made with copper, because some of those metals have copper in them. The problem with using netting or screen is that it doesn't hold it's shape as well and the holes are typically too small and clog easily. However, as D-Nak put it..."it only takes one tentacle to get sucked through the mesh and the Nem is done."

I have .010", 0.23", 0.25", 0.28" wire diameters and the wire mesh holes also very in size depending on how many holes per inch. The lower the number, the bigger the holes get. The diameter, metal, or material the wire is made of will determine how easily it bends or can be cut.

I Think anywhere from 12, 10, 8, 6, and 4 hole mesh sizes will work, but the bigger you go with the holes, the easier it is for the Nem to get a tentacle through. I've bought different sizes to play with until I figure out what works best. You also have to keep in mind that the closer the mesh is to the pump, and the hole size you choose- will create more/less suction outside the mesh. This can become and issue for a wondering Nem who decides to plant on top of the PH. It can also starve your pump if the mesh is too small or gets clogged. Too big and you risk coming home to a cloudy tank with a dead Nem hanging. So with that in mind, you have to be careful with your design. We all want the clean look, but I think it's best to stay at least an inch away (If not more) from the pump on all sides and use a smaller mesh even if it needs frequent cleaning. I picked my mesh size after getting feedback from Tektite. She ran the Vortech guards that you see above for over a year and told me that she would go with a little bigger screen and do things different next time. We talked about the material, and distance (guard to pump). Feedback was interesting and help me make a better decision for my design.

I'll post pictures of mine when I'm done, but the Jebao's are harder to work with due to the power cord and shape. If anybody is running the WP25's, here are a few pics if you want to get your own project going. I've also listed the website above where the screen and mesh wire can be purchased.

I'm getting the same pump. Keep us updated on the progress.

Epoxy Coated might be safe but when you cut it you expose the material it's made of.
What are you doing with those ends?

True that...

I'm spraying the ends and magnets. Working on them now.

ALOT OF HOLES!!! DEAR GOD!!

Next pair I have something different in mind. Can wait to start.

Got to finish these first. They may be big or an eye sore for some, but they have protected my anemones well and I sleep at night. :-)

I've had mags crawl on top of them. Camp out on side of them. Crawl on front of them. Had RBTA inflate and float into them several times.

So far, they have been 100% safe for everybody.
