Does Micron size matter. What is in your RODI system?

HI. I was gifted a RODI system from someone about a year and a half ago. I asked for a BRS system but was given the ispring system from Amazon.

It comes with a 5 micron sediment filter and a 5 micron carbon filter. I need to replace my filters. Should I shop somewhere else to get a 1 micron size filter? I have two carbon blocks on the system.

Thanks!

Since the purpose of the prefilters is to protect the RO membrane, I go with a 1 micron sediment filter and a .5 micron carbon filter.

I have a .2 micron (yes, .2 micron) sediment in mine followed by a .5 micron carbon and a 99% rejection RO membrane.

That said, I run a Spectrapure Ultra High Efficiency unit. I've seen many RODI's with 5 micron sediment filters. I do think the finer the micron the better.

I use .5 micron for both sediment and carbon block (Spectrapure filters.) Their .5 micron carbon blocks also remove some levels of chloramine. Others typically don't unless its specifically a chloramine carbon block.
