Does this price increase seem correct???

Its kind of an odd thing. Usually prices go down after a product has been out for awhile. In this hobby, often the opposite seems to occur. Are the costs in materials going up?

I wish all of you would be in manufacturing business of a NEW PRODUCT so that you would understand what it takes to make something here in the USA. AQUACTINICS is very proud of the fact that all of their products are American made, but it is COSTLY. Like with any new products cost adjustments are necessary to remain in business. Yes, the cost increase is a bit hefty but if you like the quality of their products (which I can vouch for personally) then you would not complain about this price increase! Either take it or leave it it is your choice! But before you compare other products to Aquactinics make sure that you compare apples to apples of the manufacturing process. (like where it was manufactured).

well if someone else would come out with a 72" high quality t-5 light fixture in the US then AQuactinics couldn't say... Hey we have a corner on this market and we can't keep up with the demand let's get some while the gettings good. they will still sell for this price. just not to RC type people. he has gone from being a wholesale instead of direct to the public so there is more markup in there more mouths to feed. Did all his other fixtures increase in price too bc I know thousands have bought these on RC forum recomendations. Plenty of products have gone through thirty percent price increases and still sold well (asm, octo, etc) it just hurts a little more when it goes from 600 to 900. instead of 200 to 300

I wouldnt go with a 6' fixture (with dual rows of 3' bulbs) anyways. Id much rather just use 5' bulbs. You can use Icecap 660 ballasts to run up to 3 bulbs each, so 6x5' bulbs would be my pick... less cost, more light than two rows of 39 watt bulbs.

I think Fauna Marin can make a 5' fixture for you 'special order' if you contact Aquarium Obsessed.

I wonder why aquacintics did the 36" bulb's anyhow, it would be cheaper to just have 6 60" staggered bulb's and better imo as well. Who wants to spend 300bux on bulb's after buying there fixture?

i belive the company is catalina aquatics. i dont remember the website when i get home i'll post it they have nice t-5 lighting for under 700 for a complete system or 500 for a retro fit with 8 bulbs moon lights and a remote.

The value of a product is not in what it cost to produce it, it is what the consumer is willing to pay. Aquatinics must be certain we are willing to pay more for his product, after this thread maybe not? Time will tell. With Current coming out with a "better" 6 bulb extreme Aquatinics may have picked a bad time to have a price increase.

That isn't how it works. Unfortunatly a price increase like that, if legitimate, is due to someone really bad at forcasting sales, cost, supply lines, and profit margins. Seems like a gouge to me TBH.

FWIW people are going to shop for a better deal, if the price increase was to stay in business then they are in for a real shocker. Economics explains why.

I would recomend 3x250 halides or t5 to both be purchased for retrofitting.

I'll leave it.....

LOL! My sentiments exactly...Maybe someone from their PR department will jump in here and explain the jump with a little more finesse:)

Of course, a $300 jump is more along the lines of highway robbery than just a simple increase, so I doubt finesse would really help...

Is aquatinics a European company? If so, the crappy performance of the USD may be partially to blame.

There is actually another 72" fixture - the nova extreme pro 72" is going for $699:

this should be a decent alternative, the new pro fixures use some form of individual reflector for all the bulbs unlike the old extremes. I don't know if anyone has one yet because they are brand new, so getting a true review on quality and functionality of this unit is going to be tough to come by. you can get them cheaper here, but they are on back order

I've bought several lights from them and they're very good quality. Also manufacture their own pumps/powerheads that are very reliable.

the quality on the catalinas are low typically. definitely no where near the aquactinics, and probably not even as high as the nova fixture.

I wanted to buy American and go with the Aquactinics unit, but the price jump put the Tx5 and the Constellation both out of my reach. I ended up with a 6 bulb Sfiliogoi HO t-5 with bulbs for 485.00 shipped from AO.
