Dolomite

I'm doubting I filled my bucket with dolomite, so far no help with the mag levels in my tank. I got a bucket of ca-11, which the woman said was dolomite, but I've still had to dose mag. My levels stay just under 1200, if I don't dose.

Bob,no increase in Mag. ? Try to add more in the reactor, coz' dolomite does not disolve easyly, its hard mineral rock!. I just tested my mag. last sun. stays up there 1320. I used to add mag. every 3 days to keep that level now never.............. PEACE

Sullyman,

Do a search for dolomite in Randy's forum. You will find good info on it there. It should be working for you. :)

Check this out! This plating coralline algae went nuts since I add dolomite to the reactor. Steady CA., Mag.Sr.,Dkh., Walla!!!!!

Bob,what you pic up a new batch? Look like the one I picked up. Good luck, if the mag. is't climbing just add more to the reactor.Like I said they do not disolve fast, you could if you lower the Ph in the reactor, lower than 6 but its too risky for the whole tank.....................PEACE

No this is what I got 2 weeks ago, just wanted to be sure be for I start tweeking my reactor. Thanks Menard.

Bob, whats the ratio in your reactor?Try to add more if its not going nowhere...........PEACE

Do you use ARM or something else with your Dolomite??
I used to, but its to damm expensive. Now I used Sea floor Aragonite same thing just finer and alot cheaper . Aragonite,Oster shells, dolomite mixture thats it. .......PEACE

Man, the tank are doing super, all corals are starting to merge into one ,( fused to each other) . This is the stuff I wanna share w/ U all, make every levels in the tank STABLE it will gives U good result at the end. Dolomite will not BOOST your Mag. just maintains it, Crank it first and the dolomite stabalizes it. Some tank consumes more depending on the amount of stonie in the tank. I ended up w/ half dolomite and haif aragonite in my reactor. NEW PICKS.

Menard- what does the oyster shells add to the mix?

Does that spot ship dolomite?
Jen,the Germans been using OS long before this whole Reef tank crazed hit the US. They have great succes w/ it and awesome reef tanks I would say. I'm sure the capacity is the same as aragonite but w/ the exeption of other minerals you would not find in aragonite alone. I just go w/ the user that had great succes w/ this hobby and have something to show longevity................. PEACE

Paul, nice to hear from U again, Happy fathers day.........PEACE

Paul, what made you pick dolomite as your substrate?
Menard, you have any idea how deep a DB(Dolomite Bed) should be? I guess I'll be making my way back out to S. Elgin for a few hundred pounds of pulverized doly, that may set me back $20 or so, lol.
