I got a new camera about a month ago and I am still learning how to get correct representation of my corals. Here are some from this morning. Hope you guys enjoy.

BTW, I know there are some camera junkies out there, especially in the bay (Art & Eric), please provide any tips you may think could help.

Don't want to hi-jack, and I'll start somewhere else if needed, but I'm a SPS newbie and I want to know what is the #1 reason for SPS coral "brown-out"? Lights?? Location of coral? Feeding? I look at Marko's colors and my stuff aren't close. My LPS have decent colors. SPS coral frags look healthy w/ polyp ext. Thanks for the help.

That is the red robin stag from ff. It is the same piece, but I did not get it from Tim.

That is a bad picture of the Jayda Watermelon. I did not snap any chalice shots today; sorry.

Hey Art, some of thes were taken in auto and some in manual. They were all shot in aperature mode with my f-stop around 20-25. I started using a wireless shutter on a 2 second delay. I am using an expo disc for my wb. It is hard to get a good representation as I have 20k bulbs and T5s in my maristar.

What is a maco focusing rail?

You should try shooting with a lower f-stop .. this will have less noise in the pictures and more depth of field also.

Looks like your having the same problem I have when shooting them, over exposed on top......in the shadow on the bottom. Frustrating to eliminate, we tried fill lighting the bottoms last time.

This rose picture shows what we were trying, though out of focus you get the point.

We have had good luck shooting in RAW recently. Have you set your white balance with a white something or other in the tank?

My girlfriend has been shooting for a long time, and she admits at least with the lights on mine, its hard as all get out.

What type again was your last camera? You had me sold on getting one of them for this application.

And yes, the colors in this tank are sickening to see in person.....absolutly saturated with vividness.

Mark, Your tank is looking really good. It looks like you re getting the hang of shooting pics. I have to say, it drives me crazy to try and get decent shots of my corals. Thank god for digital as I can shoot a hundred pics and get only one or two that are decent without wasting film. Every now and then I nail it perfect...but I can't seem to repeat that very often .

you can also try doing an off camera flash and holding it at angles such that you don't get the reflection from the glass. if you do it right you can light up the bottom of the corals and make it look very even.

also try experimenting at the other end of the f-stop, wide open. Try 2.8 and so for fun. You'll see more "bokeh" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh )
