dowflake and epsom salt?

In Randy's formula you mix 1/4 cup Epsom salt and 7 3/4 cups Dowflake to 1 gallon of water. You use almost 1/2 gallon of that solution to raise 100ppm of magnesium in a 150g tank. Sounds alot but thats how it works. You can use just Epson salt but Epson salt contains sulfates so that is why you mix Epson salt and Dow Flake to balance out the sulfate.

Hey, are you guys forgetting the Alkalinity part of the Randy 2 Parter?

Baking Soda at Smart & Final seems real cheap in bulk. Make sure to figure out if you need to bake out the moisture first according to whether your pH tends higher, or lower, than optimum. Just follow his directions. Been using his formula for most of a year now, and have very consistent results, and saving a ton of money from not buy my old commercial favorite, B-Ionic 2 Part.

Yup, pool water hardener, epson salt, and baking soda - doesn't sound like aquarium additives.
