drummereef's 180g in-wall build

Well...The 80's I don't think are entirely neccesary. The reason I went to 24 I think is because I was looking for "BRIGHTNESS" with just the LED's on. With the original 12 I put on it definately lit the tank, but the fish almost treated it as "lights out" and still wouldn't swim around.

With the 24 the fish tend to stick around a little longer and then I switch 12 off then turn all off.

As far as optics I think you will need them just for the fact we dont' have hoods or anything to keep the light in the tank. On the front side of the tank I noticed I lost a bit of light from wall. My fixture is on chains and not slideable like yours so you may able to pull it out from the wall a bit. Mine sits flush against the wall so that I cover all the tank with my halides.

I would reccomend doing a 80/60 mix like I did. I'll get some pictures of with the 12 with 80's up and 24 of them with 80/60 degreen optics up so you can see the difference, just need to find a better camera than my point and shoot to show you coverage.

My only real complaint is the xr-e's from cree definately create more of a blacklight affect than VHO's. It's by no means a "blacklight" its just definately an affect. It will definately show every piece of algae like a sore thumb in your tank when you do take pics :D

The only other pain is the amount of soldering/wires that will be on your fixture. But....... I'm sure you will find some amazing way to run the wires while mine are just cut to length.

Great info. I need to start doing my homework. :)

first time posting on this thread, but i've been following forever haha. as everyone should.
awesome stuff dude. good work.
here's towards 100 haha

I'm too lazy to read through your whole thread but I saw some pictures and looks really good.

Can you tell me your fish stock right now?

Inspiring build. One of my favorites.
Took me two weeks to get through 99 pages.
Here's to 100....

Thank you Eckreef. :)

Great thread! Here's to 100!

Thanks detroit_fan. :)

Thanks duncantse. Inhabitant stocking is quite light for the system at the moment. It consists of 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Cleaner Wrasse, 1 Cleaner Shrimp, and a bunch of snails. :)

Just read all 99 pagers, nice work man. One of the best setups i have seen so far...and neatness of the setup is excellent. :bounce3:

I have a question for u, if i didn’t miss i only saw u seeding ya tank with some shop ordered live sand and that’s about it. I personally prefer to add more types of life to the tank. Atleast seeding the tank with few different colour coralline.

Btw ya blue acro looking gr8.

Thanks osi! :) And I agree, the more life there is to the tank the better off it will be in the long run. Working on it. :D
