The moment you said updates (plural) and "when they arrive" I knew you had picked yourself up a pair of vortechs! They're awesome, just don't drop the drivers in saltwater (but if you do, I might be able to get you a good deal on a pair of refurbished ones, haha).

Did you get the battery backup as well? Are you going to have any supplemental flow with a tank that size?

Haha, I should have been more sneaky. I didn't get the battery backup yet. Might in the future though. I'll probably put my Tunze Nanostreams in the tank for some directional flow. I'll just see how it goes. Really excited to fire these up. :)

Looking good! How long til that tank sees saltwater:D???

Patience is a virtue right? :D At this point all I'm lacking is lights, rock and sand and I can get this thing running. Shouldn't be too long... I hope. :)

UPDATE:

Had a little free time the last couple days so I started plumbing the system. The tolerances are fairly tight but it seems like the initial design is spot on. I ended up ditching the sweeps and using double 45's wherever possible. Long story short, a decent quality schedule 40 sweep 90 is dang near impossible to find under 2". Spears makes a nice sweep but they are actually sch 80 pvc. I called Spears Mfg and was told they take white sch 40 pvc and shoot it in sch 80 molds for these sweep fittings, even though they are advertised as sch 40 fittings. Buyer beware... The Waterway sweeps are complete junk. Terrible seams and the plastic feels really lightweight and cheap. Their 2" is ok though. Needless to say I'm going to return them. Here's a couple pics anyway.

I will post some pics of the plumbing tomorrow. :)

Spears 1.5" so called sch 40 sweep 90 (actually sch 80)

I used a bunch of Spears 1" 90 sweeps on my plumbing, I hope they'll be ok...

I sure it will be fine, Taqpol. The inside diameter is a little smaller than typical sch 40 fittings but you shouldn't notice much of a difference in flow rate. Especially since you said you have plenty of flow through your sump with the return pump you are currently using. :) Part of the reason I'm returning them is because I couldn't get them to fit in my layout.

Thanks H.Veras. I'll check your thread out shortly. :)

UPDATE:

Here's the latest pics of the plumbing so far. It's slow going but getting there. :) I'm working my way back to the return pump since I don't know the exact placement of the pump yet. Need to get the sump in there again so I can see where the best placement of the bulkheads should be. Then I can start working on the drain plumbing.

Man I've got a long way to go. :D

The Dewalt makes quick work of cutting the pvc. Straight, square cuts with no burs to cleanup.
