drummereef's 180g in-wall build

Man everything looks great. The build looks so clean and beyond professional.
Are you driving the RB's at 700mA?

Thanks 110g, I really appreciate that. :) As for your question... I really don't know. :hmm2: I thought the Inventronics Hyperon Drivers were a fixed output. I was under the impression they were "plug and play" as long as you were running under the max amount of LEDs they can handle. From what I understand, they aren't "tunable" considering there's no way to open the case. How would I know for sure if I'm driving them at 700mA?

Is this what you got?
http://reefledlights.com/shop/hyperon-700ma-40watt-dimmable-driver/

if so then you are driving them at 700mA. These drivers are a fixed output unlike the meanwell eln 60-48d which can be "tuned" with the pot screw.

The inventronics is plug and play, just stay w/in its Forward Voltage, which you did.

Yes, those are the drivers that I have. Good to know. The drivers seems to be getting very warm, I might say uncomfortably warm. Is that normal, something to worry about?

I am not sure how warm they are supposed to get? May want to check where you got them. Are they in an enclosed box of sorts? maybe a small computer fan??

Just called Bill at ReefLedLights. He said slightly warm is fine (90-100F), hot is not OK. I'd consider these to be running above warm if not hot by some measures. He's going to send me 2 new drivers to replace these. Kind of a bummer considering all the soldering I did... But better to be safe then sorry. :hmm2:

one of these days I'll publish my reefkeepers tool kit, but it does include a;
IR non contact laser guided thermometer - they start around $20, not something you use everyday but come in handy around the reef.

PS - they also let you know how cold the beer is, and how hot the B-B-Q is :)

Took me a morning and afternoon session :reading: but i have all 173 pages under my belt now and will be following your exceptionally detailed journal eagerly from now on - wonderful stuff and lots of useful ideas for fellow reefers to use mate. :) I am going to copy your build exactly, except for the fine craftsmanship, cleanliness and attention to detail - i will most likely skip those bits. :hmm2:

Hahahaha! I knew there was a greater purpose for those things. :D I really need to pick one up to check the temps of both the drivers and LED bars. The drivers seem to only get "hot" when driving them at 100% after a few hours. I'm also going to add some fans to the light rack, just to move some air around. The rear LED bar stays relatively cool but the front bar seems to get a little warmer. There's a bit of trapped hot air in the front from the halides, near the wall, that I think I can get rid of with a few fans. I experimented with an oscillating room fan and had good results dissipating the excess heat. More to come...

I appreciate the kind words and am glad to have you along for the journey biggles. :) I played a great snare drum a couple weekends ago from one of your most famous drum builders, Brady drums. Made of none other than Australian Rose Gum wood. :D Sounded awesome. :)

Is Photobucket permanently screwed up with the whole Beta changeover? I tried to upload some pics, which seemed successful, but I can't view them in my album - so I can't post them in my RC thread. Thinking of jumping ship and going to another service... Any ideas what's going on?

The new beta version is junk! I was so lucky to be one the few selected like 6 weeks ago to "test" the new version and see how I liked it. I couldn't go back to the original soon enuf. It was a pain to manuever was always freezing, not showing etc....

You should be able to click somewhere and go back to the orignal. If not try to either retype

www.photobucket.com and see if that will just get you back to the original, delete coockies or browser history or log out....

It should work somehow. i am still using original!! Else I will be going somewhere else too!!

I just tested an upload it worked as always for me.

Thank you kind sir. :)

I'm glad there's someone else out there that thinks it's totally useless. :D I started a new album so fingers crossed it works again. The reason I couldn't see my newest uploads was because it was "organizing" them by putting my newest pics at the bottom of my album... 1200+ photos, at the end of 61 pages!!! No wonder I couldn't find them. :hammer:

UPDATE:

Some new pics! Having some trouble with Photobucket so let me know if you can view these OK. I took some shots of the sunset progression. One thing's for sure, it's really hard to get good actinic shots. The camera has an eye of it's own. :D

what's the orange (maybe pink) coral on the far right? looks like a digitata and does it pop as much as it looks like in the second to last picture?

Yes, that's my Pink Digitata... It's turned a little orange because of nutrient battles I think. Both the Pink Digi and Superman Monti (directly right of the Spongodes) pop pretty good under the LEDs. Anything yellow, green, red or orange seem to really light up.
