Please do. I'll be happy to update it.

The older Little Giant pump still runs fine, but I have a feeling it needs seals replaced too. I wonder if those can still be purchased...

Cool. Will do. Should I email it to your website?

BTW, I'm gigging at the St Louis Zoo right now. Outside.... 103 degree temp. Upper 90s humidity. Wonderful!

You have to play something heat related. Maybe Asia? ;)

Sure, email it to melev@swbell.net & melevsreef@gmail.com so I'm sure to get it.

The band never has to listen to things like dresscodes though! I'd suggest purple spandex pants(something that whicks the water away from your skin and keeps your "stuff" cool) and maybe a tuxedo print t-shirt!

Thanks, Brett. I'll check them out.

Hey Marc, today's avatar is speaking my language! COFFEE!!! :D

Well, woke up this morning to a leaky Dart again. Upon further investigation I found it is NOT coming from the seal. Meaning, the water is not going around the seal through the silicone I did. Actually it probably wasn't leaking through the original factory seal either now that I've had a chance to think about it more. The leak is coming from right around the shaft, not around the seal case.

When I got into the Dart again I found the impeller wobbles ever so slightly. What I'm guessing is when you fire up the Dart, the spring mechanism (seal) can't keep up with the wobbling of the impeller side seal. Almost like the shaft is spinning too fast for the spring to keep up with the wobbling impeller, allowing water to slowly seep between the seals.

What are your thoughts on this theory Marc? I'm obviously going to call Reeflo on Monday...

Major bummer brett. :( I would think that Reeflo's cust serv (being what it is) will make things right come monday! But it's still unfortunate for sure. Luckily the shaft play is minimal and the leak is slow, I'm assuming you've shut the pump down and the tank will be offline 'til this is fixed?

Btw if you decide to scrap the project, I GUESS I'll take all the stuff off your hands ;)

sorry to hear about the pump endeavors. hope you get things worked out soon. Nice documentary.

One of these days I want to buy a spare pump in the event something goes south, but I know most seals will go bad if the pump isn't used.

Seal / shaft ... it's all the same spot primarily. How much of a leak is it currently. And is this still with freshwater? When I was testing my repaired pump, watching as it rotated slowly as I turned the impellar, I could see how it wobbled as well. That's why I told you it's amazing these pumps don't leak water with a ceramic part, a spring and a little dark magic.

That pump I fixed is my back up pump, which I've loaned out a couple of times now. No-one has told me it leaks, yet. I'm going to have to make something to do a water test. Pete had my make a closed loop on my pump once before using a few parts from Home Depot. I put it all together, filled it with water, and ran it. It looked like it was running dry, but I didn't run it for more than 15 minutes or so. Then I loaned it out.

Let me know what you find out.

Yeah, I hope they will have some answers for me. Otherwise I heard they will just send me a new pump if they can't pinpoint the issue on the phone. Their customer service has been exceptional at this point.

It's frustrating but would be so much more if I had saltwater in the tank. :D Luckily I'm learning the system before I have any animals in there. Ideally I'd love to have at least a few sets of seals in case there is a problem but would love to have a backup pump in case of catastrophic failure.

Yeah, I'm still just running freshwater. Right now it is a slow drip, maybe a tablespoon every few hours. It bubbles right around the shaft then it spits down on to the front feet. It's a rusty water that's dripping down so I know it's coming from around where the impeller meets the spring seal. From what I can tell, the only part to rust in there is that little washer which the last time I took it apart it was fairly rusty. My only guess is there is a small vibration between the ceramic side and spring side that is causing water to seep through. And yes, I agree the whole system is run by it's dark magic.

OK guys, here's what I'm looking at. The pics are about as best as I can get as it's really tight spaces in there. Like I said the water bubbles up around the shaft and drips down and puddles around the front feet.

yeah i guess you r going through the same problems that i went through... sorry i know it's sucks.. at least you don't got saltwater in there....

Little update to the pump issue. Called Reeflo today and they are sending me a new impeller. She said it could be from the wobble but the spring is supposed to make up for that movement. Occasionally you might get an impeller that just wobbles too much, albeit rare. And worse case the main shaft could be bent. I told her it didn't look bent to my eye but they might be able to see something I can't. If the new impeller doesn't work they are going to send me a new pump. Reeflo's customer service = good. :)

And if anyone cares, I got confirmation from tech support that those four little M-Bolt screws that hold the main bracket to the motor housing take a 1/4" ratchet to remove them. I'm guessing a 1/4" wrench would be the same diff.
