chingchai 2 days with no pictures!!! You are killing us here! ;)

My first post in your thread, been following for sometime. You attention to detail and exquisite design its truly amazing. Guys like you elevate putting together a tank into an art. I, like many more in here, await the water date of this "monster" and really look forward to its evolution into an extension of the ocean.

Thank you very much for taking the time to document everything and for taking all those pictures. Congratulations!!!

Warm regards,

Boret

Do you have a cost log?

How about this for an answer....way more than most of us want to try to think about :D

I think cost is very relative.

At first I thought that spending 3 or 4 grand in an aquarium was insane. Coming from fresh water everything marine was sooooo expensive. However, when you think about it, we spend way more money in other things and it all seems reasonable. For example, I was getting quotes to get a granite counter top for the kitchen and it was around 5-6 grands. A new car, average car, will easily set you back 20 grand. A nice big screen TV could easily cost you 2 grand (4-5 if you want a known brand).

So the more I think about it the more I consider that if you love the hobby, if you enjoy watching the tank more than watching TV, if you don't care about keeping the old but reliable Toyota and Formica will do in the kitchen then spending 10 or 15 grand could even be in your budget!! And with that kind of money you can build a fantastic setup.

I have no idea how much chingchai has spent and "frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!" :) [Gone with the Wind quote not meant to insult anyone] mainly because he is passionate, he is doing it right from the start, he is building something fantastic and awe inspiring, and I am sure it will give him a plethora of joyous experiences. Probably more than being stuck in traffic in a nicer car or watching CNN on 70+ inches instead of 40.

Just my 2 cents. Didn't mean to derail the thread. Where are the pictures?? ;)

I'm sure its not the first time that's been asked, and I think its already been asked in this thread if I remember correctly.

I'm just excited that Chingchai is the taking time to share this wonderful experience with all of us. I can't imagine the thrill of having a tank like this, so I'm gratefull for the next best thing...this thread!! So thanks Chingchai!! :fun4:

I thought it was rude the first time another guy asked. He didn't answer the question because it strays away from the purpose of his thread... It's like going on an expensive vacation and when you get there someone asks you "hey how much did this cost you?" buzz kill.

Ching, This build is very impressive so far. I really like the ideas that have been implemented. How do the overflows work in this tank? I don't quite understand what is going on as far as flow is concerned.

Let's hope he didn't take all the money questions the wrong way and decided not to post anymore. Many great threads have died because of "off topic" opinions like those posted above.

If you are still out there chingchai, please update as soon as you can, some of us are living our dream through your amazing set up.

Cheers!

I never take it seriously when people ask me this question.
But I really don't want to calculate or think about how much money I spent on this project.
I just want to cherish and be happy with this hobby. That's it.
