Dwarf angels in LPS tank...

Hey all,

I was just doing some homework on what type of dwarf angel I might end up purchasing in the future. I've got a LPS predominant tank including frogspawn, torch, open brain, donut, hammer, etc, and was seriously considering a flameback or cherub, but then started reading that despite them having better track with nipping, they're on the bossy/territorial side? I love flames and CBs, but keep reading that the record for nipping is a little more spotty then the other two. Is it ever advisable to add two dwarfs at once or would that end up with one being dead vs. mediating the aggression? I have a 90gal.

 Also interested but have nothing to add at this time :)

I think we're all aware every fish is truly different, but it would be good to know what people have had luck with personally.

Yep, Genicanthus sp. are supposedly reef safe, but just don't have the color I want, lol. That being said, they are beautiful species as well like the G. bellus or G. semifasciatus. Anyone with experience adding two dwarfs at once?

I have a flame for almost 2 years and have had no problems with him. he may have nipped a coral here and there, but the only times I saw it he looked like he was grazing on the rock and just caught some coral too.

My flame angel mowed through about 100$ worth of zooanthids in one night, and generally nipped at everything. I got him out of there.

I was thinking about it but decided against it as two reefers I respect immensely for there fish and coral knowledge swayed me away from doing it. Not worth the risk to my acans or Z’s & P’s. To much invested at this point.

This video should show you how my dwarfs treated my open brain (( Coral Beauty, Golden and venustus ))

I had a flame angel, but he picked at all my acans and my clam. Seemed as tho he liked to pick at it to see the fluffy coral deflate. When they were deflated he wouldn't touch it. But as soon as they would open up again he picked at it. I pulled him out after a week. Sad cause its a beautiful fish.

At least they are all taking turns nicely. I too have struggled with this and have decided not to get one. Too much invested in corals and so many other beautiful fish that will not even think about eating corals.

i have a flame angel and have had no problems he grazes but never have seen him actually pick at any corals.

While my flame was very abusive, my friends is perfectly fine. He has a mix of lps and sps. But his flame is very very fat.

My Cherub (RIP) never picked on ANYTHING that didn't have fins in its lifetime! LOL
They are all individuals. Even some bad species (Lemonpeels, Bi-colors) sometimes behave.
BTW, even Genicanthus, can with time, start picking. There are several recent accounts of this here at RC. "ReefSafe" is a term that needs elimination IMHO
