Ebay Seller Using MY Pic!

There's a seller on Ebay who had been using MY pic of Purple Hornets, to sell hers. Even says what lighting it is under & that isn't true either! Who even knows what she's really selling...

Believe me--I did! I hear she's already done 2 sales like this & has a 3rd one up now. She's very apologetic & said she got the pic from Google, that none of her 70 pics came out well.

What I have a problem with is she advertises:
"PICTURES ARE TAKEN UNDER OVER 1200 WATTS OF LIGHT"

A reefer on another site just bought 10 polyps from her for $15ea. That's how I found out. I wonder what they'll wind up getting? Somebody ask her for a lineage on these. ;)

Report her to ebay. The picture and the lighting claims are fraud. You can also threaten to sue for copyright infringement. ;) That might get her attention!

Oh man, what a wanker.
Trust me, watermark your photos, especially if it's something rare , hard to find, or a collectable item.
Even if you don't wish to purchase a standard registered watermark, it's easy to make one via a paint shop or some such image software. I wonder if even the basic microsoft "paint" program can image a crude type of watermark.

I started adding one to my photos of objects at the suggestion of someone ona forum, when people started to use my photos on Ebay to sell stuff.
Or, you can do what i used to do before I learned how to make a makeshift watermark id; I would put an object, something like a prop, in the photo alongside/in the frame with the main object of the photo. Something that was identifiable to persons looking at the photos, as something relative to me.

Because copying someone elses photos for ebay is HEINIOUS!henious I say! *pounds a hand on nearby table*

However.....I am aware that once in a awhile, your photos may become what I call "googlized". In other words once in a blue moon maybe a picture one of us have taken becomes "THE" only picture on google of that particular object. So when a person comes along all fat, dumb and happy, and Googles the word "purple hornet paly" to see if there's a pic they can use...up pops your photo. And not being aware of such matters (perhaps they are younger reefers/sellers) they go ahead and use your photo.
In which case, I would take your current photo off of whereever you have it hosted. Or "nuke" your original photo and make another copy, with a watermark of some sort.

Heinous I say! :mad2:
PS. I can make you a watermaker if you wish Puffer. It's not a problem whatsoever, just ask.

How does a pic wind up on Google? From posting it here? Ebay? That was the exact pic I had used to sell a frag on Ebay.

I think any site that google searches through it can find your picture. If you posted it here on RC google should certainly be able to find it. I don't think google can search picture hosting sites such as Photobucket, but I could be wrong there. heck, even if you posted it on a local club forum google should be able to find it as a search result. it's amazing how people feel photos are not worth anything and can use them without permission, yet the reason they use your photo is cause they can't take a shot like that.

Yes, consider Goggle like a humongous database, and when someone (you) make an "new entry" in the huge database called Google, well...there's a new entry on Google, namely your photo.
Even your worded text can pop up also, not just pics.
As people add more purple hornet images to various forum sites, blogs, etc, Google (or any search engine like Yahoo probably) becomes populated with those various pictures. So that a year from now when I Google purple hornet, your photo will be one of a few photos that pop up.
All the more reason for a personalized touch imo.
Taking photos of one's items are part of one's creativity to a degree, you put effort into taking the photo. You out your creative energy in making a photo. You put more effort into the photos and the object of the photo. Like making a poem, or writing a story, or making something with your hands, or choreographing something. Therefore I feel strongly that one's photos should be copied or used as another person's own.

I've been googleized... search spiderman zoas and you'll see my pic with spiderman in it.

I'm sure this happens more than we know. google and ebay. Although Puffer, this thread is useless without a link. LOL

Lily can you make me a water mark

Puff, have you tried contacting the seller yourself? Hey if the seller is making money using your pic, shouldn't you get compensated in some manner ( a couple PH's for your trouble? )

maybe you can have them put there that PICS were used from " PUFFERPUNK "

Whoops...I noticed in my post above I had a typo error. See the correction in bold type below.

Yes, 808, you're right, i've seen that Spiderman pic and I knew I'd seen it before here on RC, now I see it was yours. That pic is a perfect example as well as the purple hornets pic. Both pics being of a zoa that (potentially) hardly anyone has or knows about. So therefore, people will reference it when reading about an auction for one or that kind of thing.
I watermark every picture i take as a matter of course now, in addition to using a prop. I just used my forum name initials.
Be advised though, once you do identify the photo as yours, know that people take that as a sign that it's okay to use it.
So, watermarking it from a paintshop program won't stop people from copying your photo onto other sites, if that's what your concerned about, but the photo will identifiable as yours. Does that make sense?
