Wow, i love the light rack. I've been wanting to use the OM in my tank for so long but wouldn't dare to mess with it. I worry about sand getting inside the drum...

Thanks Steve - yeah maintenance is also a concern for me as I got a SSB. That's the reason for the spare drum as well.... :D

But I guess after all my past experience (bad) using both Streams and MP40w, OM can't be any worst thou' :p

I really want to run OM 4 ways on my ATB flow star 4200 at the far end of my tank.

That will create some serious flow in your already serious flow tank!! :D

I'm actually thinking of this pump also for my CL as my hammer head tends to hum a little too loud for my liking under my stand. (especially when the display and all is in your hall)

Can't decided at this moment between a RD and this pump?? Is your silence? How's this compare?? Some say it's basically the same RD pump in a different packaging with a cheaper price tag??

Thanks - yeah forgot to order those Omni flex nozzles... this is the 1st time for me to used OM but have heard lot's of goody stuff about em'. :p

Are they easy to maintain?? How often do you take them out for cleaning?/

Ed, This reef is kinds new, about 9 months old. I took out the drum to make sure there was no sand in it and just to give it a once over. All was good. Important part is the feed to the 4 way, make sure that it is above the area that any sand can be suction in. I put a PVC pipe into the bulk head about 12 inches up then slipped over that PVC pipe http://www.aquaticeco.com/search/0/rt244 which extends to just under the water line. It can not be seen. This allows plenty of area that snails etc can cling on the mesh tube without restricting the flow to the pump. This can also be slipped off if needed to remove and debris that night cling to it, so far that has not happened. Just insurance. Also from time to time the lube that came with the 4 way needs to be placed between the magnets and the separator plate. All easy. I also used flex PVC on the instillation to make it easy to maintain.

Wow, that is $600 plus shipping if i want to order it with the omni flex ouch.... As for the comparison, it is exactly the same in my eye. The only different is the color and the price of course...

Thanks - I like the mesh cover...mmm must make something like that!! I'm also thinking of having the return of the CL slightly higher that the sandbed hidden by LR hopefully....

I will hook up TUBV on each input/output for easy dismantle for cleaning :D

Anywhere I can get the specs of those pumps?? Agree it all look the same to me as well eventhou some might disagree (we all know who lol)

Would like to make some serious comparison before deciding.

Presume the noise level is as quite as the RD?

I can't find the flow chart on the ATB pump but i know it is 13 ft max head pressure. The 3200 is equivalence with RD 12m3...

Sweeeeeeeeeet - going to try in the ATB sponsor forum. Any chance on firing em up to see how's the noise level??

Ed looks like you are going to have a very nice set up. you can mount your T5 reflectors to the bulbs and angle them to help prevent too much light entering the room. Even still, I like the hanging canopy look myself. I think it looks simpler (even though it isn't) and cleaner.

I have had a derict drive OM 4way running for 5 years and only taken it apart once to change the drum. I wanted to try a different drum, but the old one was in good shape still, with only light wear.

Already have sir... it is very very quiet...

Sound like a winner there... for half the price of the 'other' pump :D

I was think about mounting the T5 reflectors at an angle too but still worry about glare???

Looks like you agree with me on the floating canopy... eventhou more work for me as it will mean redoing my lighting fixture...

That's good to know... what pump do you used it on?

I use a 1/15 Hp Wave II pump for my main return. It is rated at 3000 gallons at 6 feet, if I remember correctly and draws about 135 watts restricted about 25 percent. I have it restricted a fair bit as my overflow will not handle the volume. The pump is pretty efficient and very quite. I was just comparing the numbers to the ATB Flow Star 3200 and 1800 to see if it made sense to change it out. Id definitely does not for the 3200, as the small watt savings would take 12-15 years for a return on investment at current electric rates here. It might make sense to go for the 1800, but the flow is only 1350 at 5 feet. I really don't want my flow below 1500 GPH.

For my understanding of CL, you will not have any head lost?? I'm still thinking if I should change my pump as my Hammerhead throw out a great deal of flow but the constant 'humming' is just killing me....

Head loss on a closed loop should be none existent. The only loses are from plumbing. My OM is on my return pump. I do not have a closed loop.

My apologies - should say no head loss from pipings but minimal head lost can occur from pipe friction.

Don't want to give out wrong info to those reading this thread...!! :p

Thanks Larry for sharing....

PLUMBING......

PLUMBING......

Most of my plumbing parts have arrived for the new tank.

As previous set-up, I will use a lot of true union and TUBV in my new tank. I cannot get those cool imported bulkheads like you guys get over there so I will have to make do with the local bulk heads…. Best I can find locally so far â€"œ double thread but only comes in 1 size  :rolleye1:

My my my….I’ve forgotten how expensive plumbing can be, even here in China :eek1:

It all adds up Ed. But it looks like you are off to a good start! Its probably already been posted here on your thread. But How long till you get the display tank and who is the builder.

I am going to use a OM 4 way on my rimless 245 gallon tank when I get the build started in the near future. I have the tank and the equipment sitting here for like 5 months! Just waiting too move too my new place. Also using a 4 way on Tim's build that I am doing here on RC.

I am in Toronto not too far from OceansMotions. I visited Paul at his shop too pick up a few 4 ways a few weeks back and he built one for me from scratch. He is also working on some interesting projects that everyone will soon see
