They aren't going to be out and about, but if your pairing its kind of hit or miss. I would do it in another tank, where you can monitor them. But one would be fine.

Thanks Tim - one last question on Betta - did you place your betta in after your inverts has settle in or before??

Reason I ask is I presume it will make a difference as I used to have a Niger Trigger and only place him in after my inverts has settle in but any new inverts (shrimps, snails) I add in after him, he will not give it a friendly welcome :eek1:

Well I didn't buy or add any of the "classic" inverts such as the ornamental shrimps, but the shrimps I did add were shrimps I collected locally as food for the bettas only for them not too eat them. They preferred the shrimps in the 1" range like the ghost shrimps you would buy at the LFS, or fish the size of feeder guppies.

If you can find shrimp to feed them though it is sooo awesome to watch them try and scare prey with their tail! They will also try and scare you sometimes if you put your face up to the tank fast they will whip around backwards to try and scare you!

Sump Design Change Again!

Sump Design Change Again!

Now with the stand design and dimension finalized, I realize I would need to revise my sump dimension and overall design AGAIN in order for it to fit under the stand.

So this is what I came out with….

SUMP-RevisedIII.jpg

SUMPFront-RevisedIII.jpg

No….this beautiful drawings are not done by me but I ask a help from a local reefer here who is very good with AutoCad program…!!

This should be the final version as I have sent it out to the tank maker this morning.

Note to self: Need to post this in the DYI Forum: Free Sketchup Renderings *inquire within* and see if they can do a rendering of what it will look like in this dimension with the new revised tank, stand and sump….

:p

TUNZE PUMP REVIEW …!

TUNZE PUMP REVIEW …!

OK, I’m too excited and decided to do a quick review for those who is interested…

Packaging:

As usual, I like to start off with packaging… well, nothing much to say except that this is one area I think Tunze should spend some effort.

Some of the local pumps here in China packed better…. lol

TunzePump02.jpg

Size:

They come in two model - 1073.020 model rated at 2,400 l/h (634 USgal./h) and 1073.040 rated at 3,000 l/h (792 USgal./h). My model I’m using is the larger model :p

What’s Inside?

TunzePump03.jpg

Dismantling the pump for cleaning is very easy….

However, I was misinform and this US model only comes in 115 V / 60 Hz so this will means I cannot use it here in China…. I e-mail Roger and this is his reply:

“US pump will only work on 115V 60Hz so for China is on 50Hz. Since a synchronous pump depends on the Hz for its rotational frequency, the Hz are critical to flow rate and start up and it is not likely that the 5024.040 will last very long if it is running on 50Hz even with a transformer. For 50Hz the coil is different and the impeller is larger.”

In summary, he don’t recommend running it with a step-up transformer so guess I’ve to return it back to the US :mad2:

With that I’ve no choice but to go back to Ehiem…..

EhiemCompact01.jpg

EhiemCompact02.jpg

This is the new Ehiem Compact series pump with even higher capacity compare to their Universal pump models 1262, which we are all more familiar with…

They have a chose of 3 with adjustable flow models to choose from: 2000/ 3000/ 5000

EhiemCompactSpec.png

Pretty cool that the pump comes with a hanging kit, which means you can suspend your pump in mid air….

Also comes with 2 plastic clip-on to secure your hose to the output of the pump. Only thing I don’t like is the output of the pump is fix and cannot be exchange out, unlike their Universal model

Suitable for both internal and external used.

Hanging Kit…..

Hanging Kit…..

I also purchased one of those Wire Stainless steel Cable Hanger Kit - 2 Point Connection from SoCal.

HangingKit-Front.jpg

HangingKit-Back.jpg

This is taken from it’s website:

This kit works great to hang a variety of different types of fixtures. It offers a two-point connection, which allows the user to balance a light fixture horizontally over their tank by moving the adjustable connector left or right. This kit also fully adjustable vertically. Offers a clean, attractive appearance.

At this moment I’ve not installed it to the light frame yet so hopefully it works as great as it advertise.

Meanwhile, today and tomorrow I will spend the whole day making my light frame…

Stay tune…!!

Next Project: Light Frame……

Next Project: Light Frame……

So this was how I spend my weekend….

After searching the whole of China, I can’t get those parts you guys get over in the US to make those fancy frames so I have to make do with what I have locally.

Anyway, pictures speak a thousand words….

Aluminum frame in position - front:

T5 endcap in place:

LED moonlight installed:

LB reflector in-position:
LightingFixture10.jpg

I got an acrylic with a cut -out at both side to accommodate the LB reflector to prevent splash (if any) onto my wiring on top.

LightingFixture21.jpg

LightingFixture22.jpg

All the cables above the aluminum panels are well hidden and protected with this plastic wire guard.

Now, I only hope the lights is not too glaring or I will need to think of adding a floating canopy top around the edge….

MORE TOYS

MORE TOYS

OK, I admit, I’m an equipment whore….

After much thought, decided to go with OceansMotions 4 Way (Version 3) as I think it’s the best way to hide those pumps and to get the quick random flow I required for my Crest reef….

OM4-way02.jpg

OM4-way03.jpg

For those who is not familiar with OM, the below (in blue) is extract from their website:

Different drum versions give different flow characteristics:

• Version 1 - has outlets running sequentially, (ie) 1, 2, 3 , 4, repeated.
• Version 2 - will give a delayed sequence (ie) 1 & 2, 2 & 3, 3 & 4, 4 & 1, repeated.
• Version 3 - has them opposed (ie) 1 & 3, 4 & 2, repeated. (best selling version)
• Version 4 - Designed for use with our Revolutions units. Water is sent to 3 outlets at the same time.

Got a spare drum as well…. (you never know as Canada is far from me)

OM4-way01.jpg

Can’t wait to hook everything up!

Some Revision on Circulation Plans:

With my OM 4way for my CL, I decided not to use my 2 x 6105 Streams to hook up to the Seaswirl as I think the Streams and Seaswirl profile are just too large for a clean set-up I’m planning.

Instead, I will used 3 of my Streams and have them hidden in the center overflow rock work……

Mmmmm…wonder if I can sell my 2 brand new SeaSwirl somewhere??

Hi Ed,

I figured I'd post this in your thread. Here is a rendering with the smaller canopy size that has an enclosure to hide the tops of your lumenmax's. Hope this gives you a better idea of how a canopy might look on your tank.

Ed, The OceansMotions 4 way is the best closed loop out there. I have used several closed loops over the years and this is the best hands down! No wires no tubes no nothing, all hidden. Be sure to look at their Omni Flex Nozzles, well worth the price. You will probably never need it but if you do the customer service is second to none.

NOW That's a winner design!! :D

Do you have the dimension of the canopy top?? I really think a floating top is a something I seriously need to look into as my T5 will throw out too much glare from such a height!!

Thanks - yeah forgot to order those Omni flex nozzles... this is the 1st time for me to used OM but have heard lot's of goody stuff about em'. :p

Are they easy to maintain?? How often do you take them out for cleaning?/

Wow, i love the light rack. I've been wanting to use the OM in my tank for so long but wouldn't dare to mess with it. I worry about sand getting inside the drum...

DECISION…DECISION…DECISION

DECISION…DECISION…DECISION

Yes, some decision to be made…… Jim (uncleof6) did more rendering on how the finished tank will look like…

TankRenderingDrawing02.jpg

and Will (WZHANG) add the icing on the cake with rendering on the overall look

StandRenderingDrawing02.jpg

StandRenderingDrawing03.jpg

Now I need to make a decision if I should go for the floating canopy top or not?? My major concern with me hanging em light fixture so high up is the glare from the 8 x T5 reflectors and a canopy top will surely help but also don’t want to spoil the overall clean look of the tank??

Well….what do you all this?? Floating top or naked lighting fixture?? At this moment, I’m leaning towards a floating canopy top!!
