ouch ed I'm sorry to see that.

hopefully when you go to remove the clam for the dip it will make an effort to close up. if it doesn't respond and feels limp in your hands, then its certainly gone. :(

Thanks Ryan - last night got back and my skimmer went a little crazy... and yes, the clam is still in ICU but pretty much a goner. No respond whatsoever and the mantle is almost all hidden in the shell. Will see for one more day. :(

Thanks Marc, if it survived today, I will do the dip. Wanted to do it last night but decided not to stress it as it already is :(

Here to praying he will be OK !!

Hey Ed - here's my first post on your thread, but I've been following it all along. Great updates, great reviews, and great system. I can tell you are extremely detail oriented, very organized - at least with reefkeeping and the discipline that comes with it. :)

Sorry to hear about your clam ... how is it looking today, any better or does it look like it won't make it?

Hope it is looking better :(

Best,

Best,

Welcome to my thread Itay and thanks for your comments.

IMHO, From the way my skimmer reacted last night and the condition of the clams, I don't think its going to make it as it has loss all responses and it's only a matter of time. I will give it one more day before decided if he should become dinner for my hungry fishes or not!! :mad2:

Thanks Leonardo - i understand what you're saying. Only problem is I'm using a Zeovit system and would like to avoid that method as it can cause unbalance elements in a zeovit system. That's why I'm thinking of installing a camber at the reactor outlet filled with some Al based PO4 absorber to remove the PO4 and then this PO4 free effluent is then drip into the tank sump.

With this method I treat only the effluent from the Ca Rx and will not affect my tank water much.

Hope I make sense here :rolleye1:

I understand. Forgot for a second that you use Zeo. Maybe you can use some Carbon (a part of the Zeovitsystem) after the PO4 absorber to avoid aluminium to enter the tank.

Sorry for you clam....
Your tank is an inspiration for me, as soon as you feel better could please post some pics, it´s very nice to see the beauty of your tank..
Keep the great job.
My best wishes

Sorry for your lost Ed :(

Concerning your cyano bloom, how are you treating it? Are you dosing some CS and Bak? I heard that those 2 products would take away cyanobacteria. Maybe some Biophos3 also would help!

ed, i read you whole thread. it is truly one of the reasons i joined this site! looks FANTASTIC! keep your chin up and keep going with it, ill be watching.

MINI PO4 REACTOR

MINI PO4 REACTOR

For those of you who also have high PO4 coming out from your Ca Rx media, this is what I did with an old 100ml syringe and used it as my own mini PO4 reactor.

Works very well, if I may say so myself… :p

Basically there are two types of phosphate remover you can use; iron based and aluminum based.

Phosban, Rowa is iron based and Biophos3, Elimi-phos is aluminum based

I choose to use Rowa for two reasons:

1. Randy from RC said in one of his articles that aluminum based remover can irritate/hurt the corals, especially if you have a high ph - but that’s not really my reason as the ph coming out from the effluent is low anyway but the real reason is….
2. I have a whole container full of RowaPhos left over from my old system ☺

I fill up the syringe with 40ml of Rowa. After installing my mini PO4 reactor, I let it run for 30 minutes and did a quick PO4 test to see if it works….

Before PO4 Reactor Installed:
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.24 (Salifert test kit)
➢ PO4 â€"œ over the charts (D&D PO4 test kits)

After PO4 Reactor Installed:
➢ PO4 â€"œ no trace (Salifert test kit)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.008 (D&D PO4 test kits)

WORK LIKE MAGIC…..

No more PO4 going into my tank. Now hopefully my PO4 will finally start to come down over the next week or so….

Only thing is I have to test this every two weeks until I determine how long 40ml of Rowa is going to last!!

How do you keep the media from pouring out the tip of the syringe?

The tip of the syringe is small enough to avoid the media from pouring out. For those with smaller media, I guess it's easy to just add a netting inside but Rowa media seem to work OK!!
