MONTH OF OCTOBER RECAP…..

MONTH OF OCTOBER RECAP…..

What a month of Oct it as been for me… Surely was exciting AND expensive month for me…. Not to mention the recent losses too :mad2:

Month of Nov should bring me my Powermodule and hopefully my broken Stream and Wavebox can be return back and maybe my 2 x Gen2 Stream 6105 can be delivered.

Apart from that, I think this month’s update will be less exciting compare to Sept/ Oct but I will try to keep it exciting never or less with pictures of growth, top down shots, fishes behaviours, etc…

A couple of things I still hope to achieve is to have some sort of back-up generator or battery in case of power failure, a ventilation unit inside my canopy top, a carpet surfer net over the top of the tank, just to name a few…!!

Any of you got any great ideas to share for any of the above mention projects??

There have been some threads regarding using bird-netting and aluminum window frames to create a removeable carpet surfer protective net.

Whats cool about the bird netting, is that its very fine (thus blocking essentially zero light), and the holes are anywhere (depending on the product) from like 1/4" to 5/8". The material I used has holes that are about 1/2" so that will keep most everything in my tank...

Thanks Ryan - look like a trip to the bird market for me. Honestly I was thinking of a mosquito netting as the holes are tighter together?? You think that will work too??

All the top cover I see is frame up with aluminum frame but that problem is I have to removed the whole top whenever I want access into the tank. I'm also thinking of making it like a curtain concept (just thinking only to se ehow that works) where I can draw it open at the center :)

WATER PARAMETER UPDATES….

WATER PARAMETER UPDATES….

Did a 10% WC and this week’s water parameters updates:

➢ Temperature â€"œ 26.9 degree C (light on)
➢ Salinity â€"œ 1.026
➢ Ph â€"œ 8.15 (Light on)
➢ NO3 â€"œ 0.2 (Salifert â€"œ same as last week)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.03 (Salifert â€"œstarting to show a slight tint of blue)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.06 (D&D PO4 â€"œ went up from last week 0.045)
➢ dKH â€"œ 9 (API test kit â€"œ same as last week)
➢ dKH â€"œ 9 (Elos test kit â€"œ down from last week 9.5)
➢ Ca â€"œ 440 (Salifert test kit â€"œ same as last week)
➢ Ca â€"œ 430 (Elos test kit â€"œ up from last week 420)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1500 (Salifert test kit - up from last week 1440)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1500 (Elos test kit â€"œ up from last week 1450)
➢ Potassium â€"œ380 (stable)

All params seem to be holding well except for my PO4 and Mg?? Can’t understand why this 2 parameter increases??

Lost another 2 piece acro to RTN but the remaining pieces all seem fine so let’s hope that the end of it… :mad2:

Meanwhile, my CO2 bottle is empty. Need to rush out to get this refill

maaan... thats sad Ed, sorry for your lost :(

I lost one time lots of corals because of the unstability of my system, your seems very fine to me!

POWERMODULE DELAY - YET AGAIN!!

POWERMODULE DELAY - YET AGAIN!!

Got a call from my distributor that my Powermodule is delay as it’s yet to be shipped out from Germany!!

The delivery date have been again reschedule to Nov 20 :mad2: (hopefully that’s the final date of arrival)

Guess there is nothing much I can do now but wait! :(

MP40w REPAIRED

MP40w REPAIRED

Finally after a couple of e-mail exchange with EcoTech Marine Service Center in the US and Asia, they manage to sort things out for me …..

Apparently there was some problem with my driver so they exchange it. Now works like brand new!!

Still no news on my broken Tunze 6201 and Wavebox thou’ :mad2: Apparently they do not have the parts here and have since send both pumps to Germany. Wish I were in the US like you guys where I can get the superb Roger’s customer service…

Anyway, I ask Roger in the RC sponsor forum to see if he can give me any contact for the guys in Germany where I can call. I’ve heard horrid stories that Tunze pumps takes over a year before it get back in this part of the world :eek2:

Also still no news on the delivery of my 2 unit of Gen 2 Stream 6105 from US.

Sorry to hear about all the bad new Ed.
Do you think it would be faster or easier to just acquire new equipment at this point?
If you did you would at least have plenty of back-up equipment.

Ed

How are the Solaris I LED's for your SPS?.
Are you switching to an ATI T5 Powermodule?

I'm thinking of going LED.... what do you think?

Thanks
Mo

Hi Sandy,. thanks. At this moment I have 2 local Resun Wavemaker in the place of the broken stream and wavebox and 1 spare Vortech :D

That should hold me for a while

Hi Mo,

Solaris is fine, when it works but the problem I had was quality issue as it keep breaking down on me. I have since send back my unit to the US and am temporary using my old trusty 250w MH light fixture until my Powermodule arrived.

FWIW, Solaris has move their production to the US (instead of China) and with that hopefully their quality control will improved.

If you want to go LED, another alternative to look at is AI, which I have yet to hear problems with.

Hope you find that helpful

Do you think they are as good as MH fixtures for keeping SPS?

Thanks
Mo

Yes they are but be aware this will depends on the depth and width of your tank as the light spread is like a spot lights so it does not spread out like a T5 or Mh. In order to get a better light spread, you will have to hang the unit higher and thus' loosing some Par.

What' the width and depth of your tank, may I ask??

That's a good size for Led.

FWIW, the new Solaris is I5 (assembly in US) instead of their older version I4 (assemble in China)

Good luck with your light.

NOV NOT LOOKING TOO SLOW….

NOV NOT LOOKING TOO SLOW….

Mmmm…. thought I’m going to have a slow month and all of a sudden my cell-phone ring. I’ve not been to my LFS here for quite some weeks already and I guess they’ve been missing me so on Saturday they called and for this ….

Pyramid02.jpg

Not one….BUT TWO

Pyramid03.jpg

Pyramid04.jpg

They got it from a reefer that have a total of 6 Pyramids and he wanted to downsize his Pyramids collection so my LFS quickly pick-it up for me. There was a total of 3 Pyramids for me actually but his staff accidentally sold one this morning.

Anyway, these fishes actually arrived for a few weeks already but they wanted to ensure it’s eating and healthy before selling to me as I complain that their last few wrasse didn’t work out for me.

Now they have to go back to that reefer and convince him to give up another Pyramid for me lol

I never know I could get a replacement so quickly after loosing my last one a month ago.

Did a 10% WC and this week’s water parameters updates:

➢ Temperature â€"œ 27.0 degree C (light on)
➢ Salinity â€"œ 1.026
➢ Ph â€"œ 8.21 (Light on)
➢ NO3 â€"œ 0.2 (Salifert â€"œ same as last week)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.03 (Salifert â€"œstarting to show a slight tint of blue)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.06 (D&D PO4 â€"œ same as last week)
➢ dKH â€"œ 8.5 (API test kit â€"œ drop from last week 9)
➢ dKH â€"œ 9 (Elos test kit â€"œ same as last week)
➢ Ca â€"œ 440 (Salifert test kit â€"œ same as last week)
➢ Ca â€"œ 460 (Elos test kit â€"œ up from last week 440)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1440 (Salifert test kit - down from last week 1500)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1450 (Elos test kit â€"œ down from last week 1500)
➢ Potassium â€"œ380 (stable)

Mmmm…my PO4 still not coming down to where i wanted it.

I will reduce my Ca Rx output and let my Ca and Mg drop slowly and that should also bring down my dKH slightly.

At least my Cyano is gone for the time being. Hopefully it remains that way.

SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY CLAM

SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY CLAM

Last night I was looking at my tank and I notice that my blue T. Crocea is all close-up? Upon a closer inspection, I notice that something is taking bites off the left side of its shell?? I never notice this before as the Crocea mantle is usually fully open and cover the side of its shell.

I don’t see or find any pyramid snails or any other type of snails for that matter (apart from my Turbos) and was wondering what could have cause it?? I don’t think any of my fishes can cause that type of damage to the shell??

DamageClam01.jpg

DamageClam03.jpg

I don’t know if you can spot the left side of the shell where it seem like someone or something been chewing on it and has left the outer shell expose  I have this clam for over a 1.5 years now so I hope I can find the source and try to save it!!

DamageClam02.jpg

My other 2 clams are fine and doing well.
