EHEIM 1260 Hum

Hey Guys,

I bought an Eheim 1260 for my tank build due to reading online how they are virtually silent. This past sunday i started up the cycle and ive noticed the Eheim has a hum to it. I wouldnt say it is crazy loud, but i can still hear it and can kind of feel it in the floor around the tank. I cut two piece of 1/4" Vinly tubing and slid them over the base so it wouldnt be sitting directly on the glass. The pump is restricted some with a ball valve to lower the flow. Is this normal for an Eheim pump to have a noticable hum?

I would say no, but before I go on a lot of pumps need a break in period and will quiet down. On topic, I own 5 eheim pumps (2-1048, 1-1250, AND 1-1262) ALL DEAD SILENT. Hum is resonating and the tubing was a good idea. Give it a few days but call where you got it from (if bought new) and let them know. Most vendors have a 30day return. Good luck

I also have vinly tubing comin off the pump for about 6inches and then is it had plumbed up to the return. The hum is definetly coming from the pump itself.

Mine sits on a silicone mouse pad. It is connected to the hard plumbing with about 12" of vinyl tubing. It is dead silent.

maybe i need a silicone mouse mad then. Yours is a 1260? Do yoy have it choked down at all? And there is no audible hum whatsoever?

Mine is actully a 1262, but other than the volute, they are exactly the same. If you ever want to make yours into a 1262, a simple swap and you are set. Mine feed both the return to the DT and, through a DIY manifold, both carbon and GFO reactors. Dead silent.

Mine have always had a noticeable hum. Although I don't have any buffer on my pump between the glass.

I got rid of mine, a 1260 & 1262 for Sicce Syncras, due to their hum. No matter what I did to quiet them, that hum would not go away.

Helped a friend stop that by putting a couple of large o rings around the pump. Problem is that pump was vibrating a bit and touching the glass. The rubber o rings kept it from touching.

My Eheim 1262 did quiet down after a few weeks of use. I installed black rubber drawer liners from Home Depot, and it helped with the noise. After 6 months....I got noticibly louder.....gave it a good cleaning, and it's back to normal.

My valved-down 1260 - even after cleaning and sitting on top of two pieces of 1" tubing cut in half - still hums in my sump. I've thought about getting a silicone mouse pad, but if two piece of vinyl tubing holding the pump off the base don't quiet it down, I doubt the mouse pad would. If I ever have to replace it, I'll likely go the Sicce route. This pump has been in use for over 2 years now, FWIW.

Thanks guys, i will try to put something between it and go from there. If the hum continues and i decide i cant stand it anymore, i will go with a SICCE as i hear they are near silent.

I also have hum from my 1260. I have pad underneath, one of those pads used in the gyms. I just bought a DC 6000. I will probably keep the Eheim for backup, but I am done with the hum.

I wrapped mine with 1/4" silicone tubing using long wire tie wraps. Two wraps completely around and 0 sump glass contact. Running for three years without noise. The wraps insure pump coverage and stay put during cleaning. I also switched from vinyl to silicone on the return connection.
