eliminating green pocillapora

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can remove green pocillapora from my system? This was one of the first corals I added to my system and now it has spread everywhere in the tank. I have been snapping pieces off my rock but in a few days it begins to grow back. It also seems to like to grow near the bases of my other SPS and if left unchecked it eventually kills the other coral.

You can try to put epoxy over the little spawns that pop off, leave for a week or two. Should kill it

I would need a ton of epoxy, this stuff is everywhere. I hadn't thought about rubble rock I will try that. Thinking more about the epoxy...I wonder if something like Play-Doh could be used? This way I could reuse it over and over

Are you actually talking about green pocillopora (the stony coral)? This is the first time I've seen someone post about an SPS as a pest! If this really is the case, you can remove some of the rocks with a stony coral and hit it with 30% H2O2 you get from a pool supply outlet. If you choose to do this, make sure that you do it with gloves on and eye protection - 30% H2O2 can cause a bad chemical burn if left on the skin for more than a few seconds.

Kalk paste is your friend. Also, you can bury them with sand or rubble. They can be quite the nuisance.

Pocillopora commonly spawns in captivity so it can become to the point of being a nuisance.

Personally I use kalk and it works great. Use it just like you would with aiptasia, but you certainly don't need a lot. I should snap some pics of my rockwork. Hundreds of 1/2" pocillopora everywhere! Its a beautiful coral, but will win against almost any other sps and even some softies due to it's powerful sweeper tentacles. It seems like once your colony gets about 4-6" across they tend to spawn if conditions are favorable.

Pocci's can and will take over a tank. They can do a polyp bailout and send thousands and thousands of little pocci's out to grow where they land. I had to scrape them off my glass and walls with the coraline algae and chip them off rocks.

Thats so amazing, this is why I love this hobby. Something new just when you start thinking youve read it all.

Yeah I have a bunch growing on my back glass ... unbelievable how this SPS can spread. Mine is pink and blue rather than green but it reacts the same way. Started with a half inch branch, now I've got about 3 softball sized colonies and I have to kill about 10-12 little 1/2" sprouts every couple weeks

Had same issue, gave away some, plucked a lot off all the rock work and used a scrapper for the back and sides of the tank. It was every were. Dried enough of the left over coral to fill my reactor might give it a try.

Very hot RO in a 60ml syringe with 1/4" JG tubing about a foot long works a treat for quickly killing as much tissue as you want, i used to use kalk but you are limited by how much you can use in one session. Also works exceptionally well when you want to stop one acro over encrusting another and allows very precise and instant 'termination' of the unwanted growth.
