Emperor angel eating Zoanthids

Hi. I have a Coral Beauty which has never been a problem but I have put an Emperor Angel into my 100g tank a couple of weeks ago and so far he has tucked into 2 colonies of my Zoanthids.

I know this is a risk you take, and once they develop a taste for them its hard to stop, but does anyone have any tips on how I can stop or tame this fancy for my corals? Anything that anyone has tried that has worked?

Thanks.

Well, as you said this was the risk. Usually, once these angels get a taste for corals they don't stop there. Now it's up to you whether you value your Zoas more or your Emperor Angel. Also, I will note that if the Emperor wipes out all of the zoas in your tank, it's likely he'll move onto something else.

So I recognize that this is an old post. I have a 300 with a 2 year old emperor. In the past 5 months I started to add soft corals. Everything was going well until I added a colony of zoo and within a week he ate 90 dollars worth, uuggg,! The leathers and mushrooms have not been touched at all. My question is what are the chances that he would go after a colony of rainbow cloves that I was looking to add next week?

It's really going to depend on what it's prefferences are. There's lots of different mushrooms so they might be a better choice. You could also try a less expensive clove polyp variety first.

My Emperor is now full grown. Over the years he ate my zoa, rock flower anemones. The other day he was nipping at my Haddoni Anemone

Thank you all for the input. I have an island of Xenia and he doesn’t seem to touch those either. Might try a cheap version of the cloves $30, before doing the expensive rainbow clove $180. Such a great fish so try to keep him as I build up more softies to get the best of both worlds. Thanks again.
