Before coming to CR i had no idea that these things existed! Our professor simply put out a towel soaked in this chemical and Viola! a few minutes later the towel had 20 to 30 brilliantly color full bees around it. The males are attracted to various scents which they collect and thus present to potential female mates. The males are stingless and harmless.

Wow I never knew those existed either. There are many thousands of species science doesn't know exists yet either. Its is baffling sometimes to wonder how much there is to know in this world. Your photography is excellent!

Amazing! Pics and photos! What lens did you use?
I've seen your posts with pics from various Costa Rican topics and I must say I am truly amazed at the quality of your pictures.

Amazing pictures, and bees!

What shutter speed did you use for the picture of the green bee approaching the flower?

Yes, terrific shots of lovely bees. It's always great to see something "new". It's also unnerving to contemplate the potential number of really awesome plants and animals we are extincting before even knowing about them, many of which might produce possibly useful medicines or demonstrate relevant survival strategies.

thanks all!
I just got back to our biological station from a week hiking/camping trip in the penas blancas rainforest. There were more bees too! These were shot crawling on a white piece of paper I had with me
