Kip's ER is been modified with a larger pump.

thanks i didn't put attention for that .

but still this skimmer with 2 sp3 can handle in 250 gallon tank.

I've been researching the appropriate skimmer for a 350 - 450 gallon system for ages. I thought I'd pass on the results of what I've discovered.

I bought my CS-250 a while back, with the single sp5 pump. I've been concerned it will be too small. I've followed your concerns Mike, with some interest :)

I've looked at changing to a Barr Aquatic with dual beckets (too much electrical consumption for the big pump), I've looked into other needle wheels including the GEO unit Hop just changed to ($1100.00 skimmer for a 450 gal system seems like good value), a Deltec 702 or the 1003 that Vegasmike just switched to (tooo much $$$), Aqua Medic used by the TOTM on Canreef (good value too it seems), or a used ER 12-3 or RC500.

Then I saw Kips TOTM. I looked up the mods to his skimmer, they can be seen here (pg 3 and see diagram pg 4)

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/s...87&perpage=25&highlight=euroreef&pagenumber=3

He said in that thread (March 06) "EURO CS83 w/ gate valve mod and i swapped out the sedra5000 for a 9000.... i love this skimmer"

So I emailed KIP yesterday about his ER 8-3. He confirms its just the two mods. I asked if he might tell us if it's a modded pump, but I do not think so. I saw a Sedra 9000 for roughly $110 somewhere yesturday.

Anyway, this has put my mind at rest. If KIP can be happy with the ER 8-3 on his amazing system, with all those fantastic corals, and the growth he has obtained, then surely a CS250, even with the stock SP5, will serve perfectly well for at least a years.

Omaha. I run my cs80 in 6.5" of water with the outlet extended 1.75" for a consistent up of nog every 2 days, SG 1.025.

my ears were burning... :)

yeah.. i did go for a larger sedra and the gatevalve mod allows me to run the water/bubble line higher than the riser did and without having a foam piece to clean every coupla days

i will remind.. that while my total system volume is around 450g... only the 225g display and the 70g frag tank have inhabs... but that being said... the 225 and 70g are pretty heavily loaded

dont think of your skimmer needs in terms of water volume... think of them in terms of how you stock your tank. It is just easier for manufacturers to put 100, 200, 300g recommendations than to say 14 medium fish, 30 corals, etc, etc.

good luck folks

I asked the same question. If I may quote from the reply

"the sedra 9000 from asmskimmer.com was ready
to go outta the box... had the needlewheel and the uniseal... Had to drill a new input hole into the body since the sedra5000 hole was lower... the old hole, i just plugged with a PVC plug"

Re gate valve mod

"the gatevalve mod i got piece by piece... but you can get it all together at asmskimmer.com"

braid can you send some pictures of the mod that you have. would like to try something different on my CS 250 I have the dual sp 3's on mine 30 Tall and 8 " chamber

thanks PW i will try it out. it has only been running for 36 hours, will that make a difference, and like i said no waste in the tank really yet. will ineed waste to really tune it?

Euroreef 8-1 coming apart

Euroreef 8-1 coming apart

My trusty 8-1 skiimer is starting to come apart. The piece at the top of the skimmer body that holds the female coupling for the cup has separated from the main skimmer body. It doesn't appear to be damaged--looks like the glue that held it to the main body has dissolved over the years. Can I re-attach it? Not sure what the best type of adhesive would be.

Thanks,

Ed

Im having a problem with my euroreef cs 6-2, It keeps overflowing, I Ran pump in the vinegar solution and for awhile it looks ok then it overflows again whats the issue here? Is it a known pump problem? Its been happening since I got this.

I have a Euroreef ES5-2 skimmer I bought back in 2003.Is there any upgrades I can buy for this skimmer. It still runs perfectly, just wondering if I can make it more efficent. Thanks in advanced

drillsar
Lunchbucket in a similiar post suggested the venturi could be clogged. Try taking the airline off and cleaning out the veturi with a small drill bit by hand.

Asmodeus,

Is this the weld you are referring to?

Weld-On #3 Plexiglas Glue

Weld-On #3 Plexiglass Glue is non-flammable, water thin, very fast-setting solvent cement for bonding acrylics. Also bonds styrene, butyrate, PETG, and polycarbonate to themselves. Will not bond to cross linked acrylics.
