casino - on a 29gal???!!! do you even get any good skimmate out of it?? or is the boiload too low.

Lunchbucket
Oh God yes. Rich dark and funky gunk. Empty it out weekly or when the wife says the stink is getting to her. I have a very big bioload. I got it used 1 year ago hoping to upgrade to a bigger tank when the tangs got big. Havent had to yet. I dont know if its a 6-3 or 6-1 or 6-2. The gut I got it from said it was a 6 something series. I was just happy to get it and that it fit in my little sump, takes up half the space in my 8 gallon sump.

Geez seeing all these new Euro reefs makes me want new ones I am tired of the old union style disconnect. Its a pain to get the cup off especially when my 8-2 is full.

Hey- Is the needlewheel on the Gen-X 6000 the same size as the one on the Sedra 9000? Does it use the same impeller assembly altogether? I guess what I'm asking is, could you take the impeller assembly out of a Sedra9000 and put it in the Gen-X 6000? I know the smaller ones are compatable with the exception on the ceramic shaft diameter....

I have a 65 gal tank with a 30gal cap. sump that has 20gal when running (85 gal total). I am looking at putting a larger sump in my basement, probably around 100-125 gallon.

I currently have an ES-5, which I love, but I'm assuming that replacing the current sump with the larger one, which would mean the systems total water would be around 165 gallons, I would need a larger skimmer?

Also, I may in the furture add another tank off the same sump and would like to get a skimmer that would take care of that also. Suggestions? The future tank may be around 100gal. Thanks, Tim

I've heard that these are affected by the water depth in your sump. I have the 6-1 sitting in about 9" water depth in my sump. Is this too deep?

Hi there, I bought my ER back in April, but just got to start using it this past weekend. It's a CS 6-2 on a brand new set up 120 gal tank with 30 gal in the sump. I know it's probably a little undersized for my system, but it was the only footprint that would fit in my sump intake area. Anyway, a couple of questions:

Again, the water is new and the tank was set up with rock from two well established systems, so no die off from the rock. Only have 2 very small fish in the tank right now. The ER is foaming like crazy, but nothing is getting close to getting up to the collection cup. Is it just a matter of the water still being too clean right now, or do I need to adjust somthing? The bubbles are coming to the lower part of the neck of the skimmer.

Secondly, the Sedra 3500 pump is, from time to time, making funny "grinding/whirring" sounds that are quite audible from some distance away. It will do it for awhile, then stop doing it, then start it again. Any ideas on this? The skimmer and pump are sitting on a little table I made using eggcrate to get it to the recommended water level in the sump.

Thanks for any help and sorry if any of this has been asked before, I'm at work and didn't have time to read all 30-some pages of this thread during my lunch break. :D

Check the riser tube with the foam on it and see if it is all the way up. The higher up the riser tube the higher the water level should raise in the skimmer.

Take the needle wheel out of the pump and see it something may have been sucked into the pump. Sometimes small snails have way of getting into somewhere they sould'nt.

its fairly new too, so it probably needs to be broken in completely before you really notice nice skimmate.

and the noise could be it needs a little slime buildup or air trapped, usually that noise will go away after a few days running.

ah yes, had forgotten about the need for the break in time. thanks. And I doubt the snail theory since when it started doing this I didn't even have any snails in the tank yet. I'll let it run for awhile. Sorry, it's just that when you put one thing that you spent some of the most money for in and start it up and it begins making horrible noises, it kind of gives you a cold chill. LOL

thanks for the replies....when do I get my membership card? :D

Received the new CS-180. :) What height should I cut the riser / vent / return tubes on the gate valves for best function? I only have 24.75" (thank goodness for the new cup release) of room and I was wondering if the length on these matters at all.

And when do I get my membership card? :)
