EvolutionZ 65 SPS dominated shallow reef

Hey Evo I'm going to be doing a shallow reef soon and would love some tips on setting one up, things like aquascaping to get the best flow and max space for corals to be placed and stuff like that. Any tips greatly appreciated:beer:

sure! feel free to pm me if you have any question, i will try my best to help!

Holy cow very nice tank you have man. Those colors are quite amazing. Very solid! You posted a pic of your red milli and said "FM CE is really coloring up this fella" Just wondering what your referring to :). Thanks
Kyle

Absolutely stunning tank, so glad I stumbled upon it...love the transformation photos, it's insane how much SPS can change from frag -> mini colony in the right conditions. I'm seeing very similar transformations in my bonsai and miyagi pieces so it's cool to kind of get a glimpse into what they will hopefully become. I don't think I saw it mentioned earlier but what camera are you shooting with and how do you prefer white balancing your shots to get those great SPS colors to come out without looking overly "blue" Do you change your Razor levels to get it more camera friendly or shot at whatever part of the cycle you're on?

Updates:

My RBTA splitted moments after i took this photo!

Here's a new update! the past few months has been really hectic and my tank got neglected. it went through phrases where i did not do water change for a whole month, the kh & ca dosing bottle was empty (kH was at 6 at it's lowest!) and failure to clean skimmer and pumps. All these led to bad water (nitrate peaked at near 20) and some SPS died while some lost it's color. its been a few weeks of recovering and they appears to be stable now.

Start off with one of my personal favorite. This has been with me since it was just 1" big. now its almost palm size. However i started noticing it was having this red patch of cyano (seen in pic below), i thought nothing of it and conitnued my hectic schedule. Not until it was too late to save then i found out that the underside had totally STN-ed. It was beyond salvage..

Well thought the tabling part died off, im glad that the base of the colony survived! im back down to a tiny frag but im so glad i still have a piece of this unique sps.

If you guys have seen my previous pages, i showed a photo of my lime green monti on my return pipe. This fella STN too within 12 hours, i managed to save couple of frags and glued them together, excited to see them grow in the way i glue them!

Back to the rest of the surviving frags!

My first SSC, finally i see branching growths!

another SSC, from the wild, colors getting good

red planet, boy they grow fast!

purple or blue?

That sucks about the recent troubles. But the colors are still amazing on most of the ones you showed:). Keep it up bud

Absolutely stunning. CoralVue should use your tank as their advertisement tank for the Maxspect. I thought the reason I wasn't getting good growth and color was because of my lighting (im also using razor) but this thread clearly shows it's not the lights. I'm not even doing an sps dominated tank (doing mixed).

Im running the 16k 160 watt Razor on my 92 corner. I'm using the mounting legs, so about 7 inches off the water surface. And I'm also using the 120 degree reflectors instead of the standard 90. This is my current lighting schedule:

(09:00) A: 0% B: 0%

(10:00) A: 44% B: 70%

(12:00) A: 57% B: 100%

(16:00) A: 57% B: 100%

(19:00) A: 44% B: 100%

(20:30) A: 0% B: 0%

So I have a total photoperiod of about 9 hours, only peak for 4 hours though. About a month ago, I got water params in check. Ca (430), Kh (9), and Mg (1350) are pretty solid, this did give me some improvement. I haven't really had issues with PO4 and NO3 in a long time now.

Do you think I should work on increasing the intensity/length of the photoperiod at all?

Things has been busy for me and im actually decomming this tank! Im actually downgrading (sort of upgrading too) and will be posting a new thread once the tank arrives!

Thanks guys, Im downgrading to a 3ft. Slightly smaller but overall an upgrade because i finally can have a proper sump and coast 2 coast overflow (bean animal). Tank's coming in a week and ill post a new thread!
