Fairy wrasse Photo Library

i have been thinking about getting a pai of the or rhomboid not sure yet..my laboutti is kind of mean to some but my lineatus is a beast

No one messes with the Supermail Lineatus in the tank ... nor does he bother anyone either. It's just the Laboutei who's the brat! I'm still pondering with adding one last wrasse ... the Rhomboid. I will have to get a large one so he can stand his own!

My laboutei used to be the mean one. He would pin my big Clarkii female in the corner flashing the whole time. She would do her submission dance but he wouldn't let her out for minutes. But he mellowed out once I added the lineatus and condei. The lineatus leaves everyone alone so not sure why. The rhomboid is a wuss. All the females chase him around. No damage though. I'm hoping he stands up for himself when he grows more.

My supermale lineauts used to stalk the tank and stare me down. There was something about his deep orange eyes gazing at you that was little intimidating. :o

Here's my rhomboid.

Sara beautiful photos !
I can never get a good shot of my Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus who is very aggressive particularly to other Fairy/Flasher Wrasses
I'm amazed at how you guys can mix these fish together without any problems.

well, least this thread isn't too terribly old.

I'm planning a new tank, a 150 to be set up in February. So Next summer/fall, I'll be looking for fish to be placed in it. I've had flashers before.. I was thinking.

Has anyone gotten fairies or flashers to breed in captivity? whats missing from our equation to get them to breed?

And here is its female mate. Both have done extremely well in my tank with all my other wrasses.

Im currently setting up a 75g, should I settle on 1 fairy/flasher wrasse I really like or will I be able to get 3-4 assorted wrasses? Also do you have any suggestions on more likely to be compatable species if multiples will be possible.

I found out that Scott Michael dropped some wrasses off at a LFS, 2 were sold already but they still had a nice male fine spot. I'm just wondering if I get him will I be able to add other fairies in the future. I have a 75g. Also are finespot's good for a beginner.

I have a question about Scotts fairy wrasses. I ordered one that was supposed to be a Cook Islands, but I'm almost positive it's an Aussie Scott's. I have the chance to purchase a mated pair of the true Cook Islands ones. First, if mine is a true aussie, would it get along with them and/or if the one I have turns out to be a Cook Islands, would it go with the true mated pair? I've only had the supposed Cooks for 2 days, so it's super hard for me to tell at this point, but it's about 5 1/2" and still skiddish. I have a 180, so it's a pretty big tank, with an aggressive Sohal and Red Sea Sailfin. I got a Red Sea Regal in spectacular condtion, but my sailfin kicked his butt so I pulled him out. I just don't want to make another mistake and give away some more expensive fish.

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you have a 5-1/2" Scott's, then it's a male. I don't think I would add another male Scott's if I were you. Been there, done that, and it wasn't pretty. I didn't do it deliberately, it just sorta happened. My female Scott's changed sex during the five weeks she was alone waiting for the male to arrive. The first male died in transit and the second one was a replacement.

I think yuo should beable to do a trio or more of flashers, or a few fairies that do not look alike, or have the same body shape.
