Favia and Acan frags

I just purchased these two frags. This might sound stupid, but now how do I attach it to the rock? More to the point, I know I will use the underwater epoxy and attach it that way, but I mean should I put it vertically on the rock, or horizontally on the rocks?

The first one may be a favia but the second one is a chalice! Low flow low light horizontally. I personally think super glue gel from the dollar store works best. Good luck nice chalice.

agreed with jimmy. very nice specimens too...

BTW, I use gel super glue as well, you can pretty much glue any coral in any direction and it will grow just fine.

Thanks! I got them from mrcoral (www.mrcoral.com) and they were only 10.00 a piece. Will they grow flat, like a plate, or grow and conform around the rock that it is on? I'm trying to visualize where to put them to grow on a rock, but I'm having a hard time visualizing how they would grow.

Chalice will grow plate-like,due to the sp. only encrusting some if not none, and the favia will encrust all the way.

That first one might be a favia, but it looks more to me like an acan echinata. 2nd definitely chalice.

Have you recieved your purchases yet? Im interested to see the quality of them. They had some great stuff for $10. Can you post pics

I haven't received them yet. They are probably going to be shipped Monday or Tuesday. I will let everyone know when I receive them. Does anybody else know places with cheap frags like that?

Chop shops take a colony, make as many itsy bitsy frags out of it as possible, and then sell the frags fresh cut and unhealed. Between the aggressive fragging, no healing time and then shipping, the purchased frags tend to arrive in very poor shape and often perish. Unstoppable recession, exposed skeleton, excessive sliming and unwillingness to eat are often symptoms.

+1, due to chop shopping mr coral's DOA rates average at 30-70% on multi frag orders, and he's notorious for a communications blackout if you contact him about dead frags. If you're lucky enough to get him to reply to your emails you'll get some "credit", which means you can pay him for more dead frags or let him steal your money.

If you have frags die, do not accept credit, it's just a predatory game he plays with customers, tell him to refund for the dead frags or you'll file a claim with your cc company.

Had similar thing happen to me. 1 DOA, 2 died within 24 hours.
Gave me credit for the DOA, but nothing for the other 2.

And some of the sizes are SMALL, really really small. Very different from the scale the photo seems.

FYI I received a shipment of 31 frags for $270 last December, and they are all still alive. Achans, Chalices, SPS (including ponape birdnest, red planet, and joe the coral), zoas, granulosa, mushrooms. Some of the frags were quite small, and I was a little worried at first, but they have done fine. Communication was good too. I may have been lucky, but I have no complaints, and plan on ordering from them again.

i hope the corals do well and make it, they appear to be real nice pieces...

this is my favorite seller...not sure if he ships to USA though...great stuff though, and i havent had one die yet and i have ordered from him 4 times now...
fragalot

I like your choice of corals. Hope they do well for you. I like to place my chalices on a large piece of rock that is at like a 45 degree angle. I start them low and then slowly keep moving them up to where i think they show the best color. I have some suprisingly high under my 400 MH... Part of the fun is trying to find the best spot for them.....
