FedEx lost package of 35 sps corals being shipped to me

Sorry dude. A large foam box and decent water volume and some may have survived. Too bad. Hope the seller sorts something out for you.

OK, addressing the decent amount of water and corals using little O2 points:

Using an Acropora respiration rate of 0.2 gO2 m^-2 hr^-1 (derived from A. palmata), and an O2 solubility of 6.6 mg/L at 25C and 35 psu salinity in water, if we place a 5 cm x 5 cm piece of coral in 1 L of oxygen saturated seawater, after only 13 hours, less than 2% of the original mass of O2 in the water will remain! That's 100 millionths of a gram of O2. In an entire liter! Proper gas headspace and sufficient oxygenation of that headspace is a MAJOR factor!

That said, these pictures make me ill. Those corals are incredibly poorly packed and probably looked about the same yesterday.

I've never ordered coral online and now im really scared to try it. I feel your pain, i ordered a new AI Hydra (from a well known company) that was supposed to arrive yesterday. When I opened the box everything else I ordered was there and no light. It said it was on the packing slip but someone jacked it or they never packed it. Now I have a $400 battle on my hands, they better send a new one! I hope you get your money back.

Just plain wow. Bravo! This is great.

Bummer. That's how I pack frags when I'm hand delivering them within a few hours! I hope the seller makes it right for you - and let us know either way. No seller is free of mistakes or misfortune, so the quality of the seller is in how they react to and handle these instances. Best of luck to you!

Honestly I have order several hundreds of corals and fish online.. Only had a few fish and very few coral deaths. I order almost all dry goods online.

You have to make sure you order from a reputable place, the hard part is you end up eating shipping most of the time if something dies.. Most places are ok giving you a credit for the dead piece because hey now you have to pay shipping again so you may order more coral to justify the high shipping cost of overnight shipping. Some really good vendors will ship the coral back for free or you still eat shipping and they throw some free stuff in.

Also when you have issue leave vendor feedback so others know how it went and how it was resolved.

First he said no refund as I don't feel comfortable at all, then i said sure you can resend only if you use at least three times more water and use styrafoam box. Then later he sent a text wanting a photo of every bag to show DOA. I looked at all of them and some were not as cloudy but already had tissue loss on them. My trash came today and wasn't gonna let those sit for a week in my trash can and sent him picture of box in trash. Then he asks for all pics a few hours later. I sent him five pics within minutes of getting them. It's not even about money, I almost told him forget it and just keep them money. Now that he sent that text it's a principle thing. I'm thinking I should just do a paypal resolution before it's too late. I'd say at least 70% of corals were in cloudy water like pics, whats the chance the other thirty were save-able with some tissue loss that was floating in bag?

FYI- yes this was a reefer on here I bought from in the selling forum, most companies usually know how to ship properly so this shouldn't scare people from ordering coral online.... However I will be going to my local store Bio-Reef and just pay more but without all the hassle of taking time from work.

That whole ordeal sounds pretty awkward. How do you tell someone they did something stupid without making them feel stupid, and still get your money back.

UPS is far better than fedex in my area. I have NEVER had to jump through hoops to get live good through UPS, but close to 50% of the time with fedex it takes a half dozen phonecalls and a trip to the local fedex center to get my livestock.

Sorry for your troubles, those frags were terribly packed, and you are deserving of a refund or reship. It's a bit odd that he's asking for photos of every single specimen given a 48hr wait and that bad packing job. I'd do everything you can to resolve it with him directly, but if he won't help you, I'd got to paypal.

who packs like that, seriously, I would have more water in there when trading frags with a fellow reefer who is in the same city. The seller needs some common sense...

Yah not cool at all. I like to think the community here on RC that sells frags does so for more then to just make a quick buck. Meaning they go the extra mile to over pack things even if it eats into the cost a little more. This was either a novice seller who needs to learn how to ship or a shady seller that needs to be avoided. I hope you are able to get a refund.

Edit: Just did a little snooping and saw you posted on Boggs thread. Now I'm really confused these weren't from him were they? He is normally a very excellent seller. I used to know him personally.
