Was supposed to have a fish delivered by FedEx Priority Overnight yesterday, well it never made it....After many calls and what not, it seems to have been found and made its way to Phoenix and should be here by 9:30 PST.....What do you think its chances are? I am going 50/50.....It's a Maculosus Angel.

Ah man, thats rough. I had a similar experince.

In the dead of winter, I ordered a fish from an online store which shipped on the fish Friday, and was supposed to be delivered on Saturday. However, the company forgot to label the package for Saturday delivery, and therefore it waited in a holding container at the airport until Monday. Needless to say, the poor fish didn't make it.

I hope you have better luck with your's.

Really depends on how well it was packed, amount of water, well insulated box, ambient temps, etc.

pH will be low so acclimate SLOWLY. I've had fish go 36-48 hours with no issues, even in winter.

I used to ship fish for a living, the airlines policy is they will deliver parashables (which includes trop fish) within 48 hours, so we used to pack our shipments with that in mind and we had very few problems. This time of year with mild temps, and if the supplier is a good one, you should be fine.

LargeAngels is correct though, the pH will have dropped and in lower pH ammonia is far less toxic, so don't do anything quickly or the fish could not only stress, but raising the pH could cause the fish to burn in the now toxic ammonia.

Well he is here and alive, Blue Zoo did a really nice packing job, and I am guessing they did not feed him on ship day as there was very little waste, and no ammonia smell....I have him on a slow drip, I appreciate the advice.

As far as the fish, he is a beauty. He is only 3 inch long but pretty much has his adult coloration which surprised me a bit....Mac's must change a bit smaller than most other big angels??

You guys were dead on about the PH, it was down around 7 when I started, I have gotten to about 7.8 over a 2 hour period, hopefully that is not too fast? Go the rest of the way the last hour. His breathing isn't too bad.

whew! sounds like a close one, hope he pulls thru.

My buddy is a vendor and has had his share of cancelled flights and rerouted plane horror stories. thousands of dollars worth of dead stock.
