I was told that the following would make my planted macros bloom, but I am concerned about adding them to m seahorse tank. Any one know if these are safe to add in there?

freshwater fertilizers: seachem potassium, flourish and
nitrogen, and kent chelated iron

I don't really see a need for it as the seahorse tanks are notoriously richer in nutrients than a normal reef. Any food added that doesn't get removed releases all too many nutrients, negating the need for additions.
Even in my reef tanks, I do water changes NOT to replace nutrients/elements, but to REDUCE the levels, as every food I place in the tank is directly or indirectly adding all the chemical elements that make up the food. As uneaten food and fish wastes decompose, these elements become available as food for nuisance algae as well as any planted plants one might have.

"Bloom," as in grow? I would not. As Ray says, the waste of the seahorses and the food added to the system should be nutrients enough, and the things you are talking about adding are for flowering plants, not algae. Also, you don't want to encourage hair algae to overgrow your macros.

Sounds good. I only asked because I recently received some very healthy macros from a very generous member who gave them to me for the price of shipping (plus, he ate the paypal fees and some of the shipping since he packed them completely submerged in water). When I asked how he got them so healthy, he suggested I add those ingredients. But it makes sense that these would not be safe in my SH tank. I have decided to set up a separate planted tank with a deep sand bed and try and grow them there and see what happens.

Thank you both for your help!

in addition, if the plants are macro algae, a DSB really doesn't matter, as macro really doesn't have a root system. OTOH, if what you have are vascular plants such as stargrass or manatee grass, bright lighting and at least a 4" substrate are your best bet.

do you know what macro you have?
