The Damsels should go if you can get them out. When I moved my tank, I kept them and regret it now. I have 3 Blue Damsels that are 3" or larger. They are bigger than a few Tangs in the tank. It's hard to tell from your pictures, but it looks like you have added some snails to the tank. You might consider attatching some algea sheets to the rocks for them to graze on until you get a little more algea growth in the tank.

so all of the damsels has to go out, snail are in there just for time being but will transfer them out later. ok thanks

Damsels are some mean little buggers. I have one that i've been trying to get out of my tank for years. They're smart too.

I've been trying to catch 3 Blue Damsels for the last year and haven't had any luck either.....

I was thinking that these damsels would have been better placed in a different part of the system in an area that is easy to scoop them out later. Since the whole system is tied in together, their waste would still be used as part of the cycle.

The LR will as well, of course.

In the meantime, you can build a fish trap and start practicing.

If your trap catches them, please send to South Dakota when you are finished. I've been able to catch everyone but the Damsels with the exception of the Dussumiere tang who is to big to get in, although he has tried.....

I am surprised by this comment since one of the reasons I went with Deltec is its low power consumption. My Deltec AP902 only uses 104 watts of electricity which is far lower than my last skimmer.

Our new Volcano skimmer uses just a bit more than our 902 (and less than the 1003/1004) and skims 10 times better than the 902 did. I can't comment on comparison with the 1003/1004 since I never owned one. Watt for watt I will always side with the Volcano skimmers for efficiency and performance :).

But enough of my opinions... lets get back to the topic of Bart's tank :D

Bart

If you want to kick start the cycle I have heard of reefers dropping in an uncooked, dead shrimp (from the deli) into the tank to feed the cycle and give it a pretty big jump start. I never did that myself becuase of all of the Live Sand that we used, but I know of others who have used the "dead shrimp" method. Just offerring that up to ya :)Looking great so far.. your rockwork looks fantastic :D Keep up with the pictures :)

I took this picture this evening of my 7" Dussumiere tang, along side one of my Blue Damsels. I can't say that they Damsels bother the bigger fish, but they do chase after the Chromis & Clowns and anything smaller . They were part of the first saltwater fish I purchased when I got into this hobby. No one warned me that I would regret it nearly 3 years later. If I could catch them, I would remove them, but I am not going to tear apart the tank to get them out.

that's a big and very nice tang, but the blue ones i have is 1" but i guess they will get pretty big like yours. no need to tear your tank apart, since your rocks stacks is in 3 piles i would placed egg crate between the 3 piles which would be two pc's then that would make the area a lot smaller where it will be little easier to catch them. i will doing something similar to that.

thanks but i am not a big fan of dead shrimp, since it only took me 3 months to get this far i can do it for another month. QT is getting setup up now so i will start purchasing the fish i want.:D

I fully understand... and I went the "natural" route also... just offerring it up in case you hadn't heard of that short cut before :)

thanks Tom, but i have read alot of ways including short cut, cycle bottles and etc. qt will be done couple days so i will be ready to purchased some fish and will enjoy them in there for now.:D

Just as a note I have used the dead shrimp method many times when starting clients and reef buddies tanks :) its actually very natural and works wonders! Another great method is to take the dirty carbon pack or sand and/or the water from a water change of someones tank that you admire.. this way you infect your tank with the same colonies that help "his" tank its actually a very healthy way to begin kinda like curing a fine cheese from pre collected cultures... But LOL I understand your point Bart... you have already gone this far this way

Looking really good
