I was planning on ordering the following..

Anyone see any problems in this list??

3 SeaSlug's
12 Feather Dusters Gr/Yel and Rd/Pnk
200 Red/Blue/Zebra Hermits (mix/match)
100 Snails Mix & match
1 ML Copperband Butterfly
Mating Pair Gold-Head Goby's Of decent size
1 LG Sohal Tang
1 LG Naso With Streamers
1 LG Blonde Naso
1 LG Desjardin Sailfin Tang
1 LG Orange Shoulder
1 LG Yellow Eye Tang
2 ML - L Moorish Idol Butterflys
1 LG PowderBLue
1 LG PowderBrown
3 L Cleaner Shrimp

Anyone see any conflicts?

As far as Angels.. What larger Angels can I keep?? If I plan on having mushrooms / polyps in this tank??

Just my opinion:

1. From personnal experience, your hermits will finish off your snails in no time.

2. Copperband will eat your featherdusters

3. Tangs might harass other tangs and maybe, the Moorish Idols.

how big is your tank and do you plan on stocking them all at once?

The tank is 375 gallons (8x3x3) and has plenty of space.

As for stocking all at once.. Probably not... Just depending on what's available.

I was wondering about that.. So, I should forgo the snails then? Or is there a better brand of crab to get? They sell "cleanup crews" with these two together all the time.. Is it just overly expensive "Fish food" ?? :)

I had a moorish Idol pair with the tangs listed below in my previous tank.. They seemed to leave them alone..

As for the copperband / feather duster.. Really?? Why do so many keep them in their reef then?

IMO, That's alot of fish to add all at once, especially with such a new tank.

That is also alot of tangs... you might have problems with the tangs of similar body type fighting with each other. We also have a 375 gallon tank and have had problems with our Achilles Tang picking on other tangs of the same shape.

The trigger you added last week will probably make short work of the cleaner shrimp and possibly even the hermits.

And Van is right about the Copperband eating the featherdusters.

Because we like the butterfly more than the featherdusters.

Ok.. Rethought this..

So, here's the revised list: (thoughts/ suggestions welcomed)

The Cleanup Crew:

150 Hermits from the Mix & Match Red/Blue/Zebra
100 Snails from the Mix & match
4 Emerald Crabs
4 â€"œ 6 Sally Lightfoot crabs
Black Brittle Stars (3 â€"œ 4 each or would you go more?)
Green Brittle Stars (3 â€"œ 4 each or would you go more?)

On the 3 species listed below do I / should I have all 3 or just go with one?

3 SeaSlugs
2 Sandsifting Cucumbers
Tiger Sand Conch? 1 â€"œ 2

Mating Pair Gold-Head Goby's Of decent size
1 Bi-Color Angel
1 Lemonpeel Angel
4 XL Scooter Blenny’s (Can I keep this many blennies in a tank at one time?)

1 Bluespot Jawfish

Pair of LG Lawnmower blenny’s in stock
Pair of LG Twinspot/Signal Gobies

With the Acanthurus Tangs I was planning on adding all @ once

1 LG Sohal Tang
1 LG Naso With Lyretail
1 LG Blonde Naso with Lyretail

1 LG Desjardin Sailfin Tang
1 M Yellow Eye Spotted Tang for further algae control
1 L Tennenti Tang (Rare)
1 LG Gold Rim Tang

3 L Cleaner Shrimp ( The pinktail I have should leave it alone )
2 L Yellow Tangs

And that should do it..

Too many fish? Not enough? What do you think? Of course I will be adding this over a length of time, however, I will add the cleanup crew now.. And possibly the smaller tangs/angels/blennys/gobies

Thanks guys!

No green brittle stars. They aren't called green death for nothing. They will eat your fish.

I see you've kept tangs before but didn't say which ones. Sohals can get VERY mean when they get big. Search here on RC and you will find lots of stories where sohals killed half the tank off.

I always go by the rule one fish per month unless its imperative they get added all at once for aggression. Helps build up the biological filtration.

I hope you have a mega skimmer for all those tangs. That's about 8 ft of tangs full grown.

Yeah I hope you have one extremely serious skimmer. That's so much food input. Sohals can be a serious PITA and aren't worth the trouble they can cause (alhto i think they are the prettiest fish in the ocean). It is a lot of tangs, but 8x3x3 is a seriously huge tank. I had a 7x3x26" and that was a lot of room - especially the 3' width. If you have center overflows they should have lots of room to stay away from each other. I personally think you should add them slower, but I can also understand adding them together.

I hate hermits. Besides the fact that I believe Interceptor might be a staple in our hobby, they just kill snails. They don't work as hard as snails (IMO) and dead snails means more decay. I just redid my tank and realized I didn't have ONE empty snail shell this time, or when I emptied my 150 a few months ago.

But I totally agree with Phil, I hope whatever skimmer you have is pulling at LEAST 2,000LPH of air - preferably much more.

Also wanted to add my 180 - after going tang crazy, I wouldn't do it again. They are such pigs and you will hardly notice the other fish in your tank. They crowd the front glass. I would stick to 3, 4 max of my favorites. I really love the look of a LOT of smaller fish but thats just MVHO.

Also I looked at your tank on reeflovers - I think your rockwork could be higher to lessen aggression. When I added more LR (after the tangs were in), the tank mellowed out a bit. I went to just a few inches to the top.

Post pix though, I do love to see tangs!

Wow! I think thats way to many tangs personally. Also as said before I wouldn't dream of adding that many fish at once, the best I can say is a little patience will go a long way. I have been on the add a ton of fish train before and honestly lost just about every one of them. Remember Tangs are ich magnets as well and stress plays a role in ich. I have a 180 with 1 Atlantic Blue tang, 5 Chromis, 1 Lawn Mower Blemmy, 1 Mandarin, a mated pair of Ocelleris and a Royal Gramma, aside from the tang not being nice to the blemmy all the time its a peacful tank, I think they have some strange history from way back : ) Good luck but I would say a little at a time.

Appreciate the comments..

I have the ASM G4x Skimmer with the Recirc mod and gatevalve mod installed.. So it's a beefy skimmer.. Larger then I need..

As for the Sohal, yes I know they can be mean.. But i've found as long as they were all introduced together, it wasn't a problem..

I also know what you mean about the rockwork being taller.. I will work on that.. I'm not happy with it the way it is..

I don't plan on adding "everything" at once.

But logic tells me that I will more than likely have to add the Sohal, Naso's and Vianetti at the same time as they are all the same body type, and well, if I don't would probably fight each other..

I should be ok tho..

anyone have any thoughts on the cleanup crew though??

I'll drop the green brittles.. Didn't know they were called green death.. :)

I forgot to add, I will be using a 55g tank lit 24/7 with 2 96w PC's for Calurpa / macro growth..

I plan on feeding the algea to the tangs...

It should also help with the bioload considerably..

I would add way more snails and drop the hermits.

If it were my tank:

300+ golden astreas
100+ ceriths
100+ nassarius
You have cucumbers so you won't need a conches.
