Fish Trap Alternative

I have the fish trap from Aqua Medic and it works when the fish cooperate but I have a Bartletts Anthias that has super speed and reflexes. He has the ability to clear the trap before the glass closes. Has anyone had any luck fishing with lets say a #24 barbless hook? This will be a last resort but I'm leaning that direction. Does anyone have a sure fire alternative for a tricky fish?

A tiny little barbless hook is a valid option. Just yank the fish out quickly and get it in water again as fast as possible so it won't tear its mouth up.
Have you tried a bottle trap? No moving parts.

I feel you should just let the anthias go inside the trap a few times without pulling the trap, then wait for him to actually sit and get comfortable

This.

My anthias would literally sit in the trap, waiting for more food

I agree. It might take a few days but this will definitely work in the end. It always has for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I will keep at it but this Bartlett's has the reflexes of Chuck Norris. One week into this and he is still very cautious around the trap. He waits outside for others to stir it up and eats what floats out. My CBB is the one that sits in the trap waiting for food.

Has anyone went to the extent of catching all the fish to remove just one?

With less fish, especially the easily catchable ones, I was thinking I could reduce feedings to coax him into the trap. My luck he would be the last fish in the tank.

This is still on my list of options but the fly hook I had was to large. Trip to the fly fishing store is in order. And I have more aggressive feeders that target food before the Anthias. So I'm starting to question this option.

From my understanding of the bottle trap I can not be selective of which fish I catch.
