I heard angel might eat clams.. is this true... the flame angel seems to be quite reef safe from many people's experience... i heard ANGELS in general have a taste buds for clams... Anyone have a flame angel with clams?? Thanx alot.. hopefully I'll buy one tomorrow if it's safe!

My flame angel does not even know that the clams are there. It has never ate anything on my reef. I do keep it well fed.

Flame angel with Clam is it safe?

Depending in the fish, not all fish behave the same. Scott Michael's book states that they are known to "nip" at clam mantles. I know someone that just recently had a very bad experience with this fish and clams.

If the fish nips enought, the clam will not open as much as it did prior to being nipped. :(

I've heard it's a 50/50 shot, and you might not know right away. I've known folks with various angels both large and small, and after many (5+) years they suddenly turned into coral and clam nippers, despite being well fed.

My flame angel has been with clams for about two years and never even comes close to them. he was in afowlr for 6 years before that maybe he lost his taste for them.

Introduced a fish to my tank with clams already present and never bother the clams but then later introduced some new clams and the fish went after the new ones. :(

If flames and clams could coexist in the same tank without any concerns that the day least expected, you little angel will do that first nip... that would be the perfect stress free reef tank...Mhhh, then again, few aquarists can make the claim that their reef has never ever, given them any headaches!

Both animals are beautiful, and deserve the best. For me (and for me only, everyone can have their own opinion) taking chances by putting them together is just not worth it. I don't mind at a flame nipping here and there, but not on a clam. A clam could be in serious trouble if harrased by a persistent tankmate (be it fish, crab, shrimp, etc).

Just my opnion and $.02
