your plan will work just fine mark and if it settles at all you can always screw the posts up to compensate .
on another note your stand just got its first coat of polyurethane and it looks great !
are you looking for 1" thick plates ? what dimensions would you need them at ? i have a friend that can get them probably but they would be "cutoffs" and may have light surface rust which i can easily remove for you and paint but i dont think that it would ever impair them with some surface rust either .oh and,how many also ?
I guess I wouldn't care what they looked like. I'd want them to be about a foot or 18 inches. Square. Looking for 2 to create a larger footing for the adjustable support posts.
i will check it out tomorrow for you and 1" thick is really overkill IMO and may be tough to find cause thats some thick stuff for sure . 1"s what they use in road construction to cover large holes for cars to drive over during construction . anyway i will see what he has but we may have to go with 2 slabs of 1/2" plate steel and i can weld them together in a flash .we will see what pops up for sure .
