flow on a 240 cube

so im thinking of selling my 220 tall and buying a 240 cube. love the look
so im torn between a closed loop or a few tunzes/vortechs in the new tank. i have tunze now and love them but like the idea of a closed loop with no wires or such in the tank, but dont know about the flexibality of a closed loop. it is a softie only tank with a few lps in it so i wont need a ton of flow

I would go with the closed loop if it were me (it was, i did, and i'm glad) you can argue that the pump may use a little for electricity, but a great trade off for the clean look, IMO

i am leaning towards the CL but have some doubts, but who doesnt have doubts about something......especially in this crazy hobby!!!

Grove tucky for me - yes it requires a few more holes - but, IMO, 1 or 10 holes - they are too easy to do and make life much simpler

true.... i will most likely have it drilled when they make the tank so i can have it drilled on the bottom. although they said they dont use tempered glass so i could drill it. obvisouly they dont know my skillz...............or lack there of or fear of drilling glass. not sure what one it is

drilling is easy! I would use 2 x 2" drains for a tank that size if I were you. You can get the bulkheads and bit from www.glass-holes.com for a very good price.

I am just getting my 90g up and running, put the first fish in today, well I ran a closed loop for the first time. I love it. Infact, bulldog, you helped me on another thread...Oh NO.... the one about the milky water.

Get to the point.... the closed loop allowed me to add a "Whole house filter in the line, it really makes it easy to run polishing filters w/o more pumps, when I was done I simply valved around it.

I am hooked on closed loops!!!

I figure between the closed loop and the sump I am pumping 1500-1700 GPH w/o powerheads. The flow is incredible. I did not drill extra holes either. I made a siphon Pipe w/Black plastic so I could pull from the bottom/center of the LR mound I create... then it goes through a valve and into the pump. The siphon style keeps the pump from working to hard, it doesnt have to pull water...then it goes out the pump and splits to go to the polishing filter and the tank. The tank side has another valve so If I want to force it all through the filter I am able too. Worked great I can show pictures of the filters I used to clean the milk out of my water.

what type of flow should i be going for on the cube if its soft only. ive got about 10-12 x's the turnover as flow now and would think its ok. im debating if my return pump now could be used as my CL pump then get a dart or something for a return pump as ill need more pump for head pressure
