FMAS elections for 2009

Elections for the club will be taking place at the November general meeting.

The process for elections is that the President, Vice President, and Treasurer are recommended by the nominating committee (this year Pedro, Julio, and myself). After recommendations have been given at the general meeting in November any member may nominate another or themslelf for a position. A vote will then be taken and a new president, vice president, and treasurer appointed for 2009. The newly voted positions will then appoint the rest of the board members for 2009.

The only prerequisite is that the president must have served on the board of directors for at least one year prior to being elected.

Currently Rogger is interested in President, I am interested in Vice President, and Julio is interested in Treasurer.

If anyone else is interested at this time please post here, email me at chrisaggie@yahoo.com, or call me at 305-773-9295. Feel free to contact me with any questions whatsoever.

Please do not nominate others here at this point but please do refer them to this thread to see if they may be interested.

Chris

I don't think that you should have said anything about any nominations at this point. Don't you think it may stop some people from nominating themselves or others when they see that most of the nominating committee is nominating themselves?

Or is that the point?

Where was Rogger and yourself this last year? It sure wasn't helping the club.

Matt, I am not sure what are you are trying to imply but I think it is not up to you or any one person to make that decision, it should be a club members decision through vote to decide who should lead the club next year.
Pointing finger at each other will not resolve anything, especially since you have no clue what I do or not in my personal time to help the club members.
If you would like to discuss that please feel free to call me, I will be happy to talk to you.

Matt, you may be right, I was just trying to be honest with the club members on where we stand with the nomination process. Like Rogger stated, the Julio on the nominating committee is not the same Julio running for Treasurer. The nominating commitee members are pulled from a hat at random.

I had absolutely no intention of supressing other nominations.

I will choose not to fully answer the last question here because I want to keep this thread focused on the naminating process instead of on Rogger and myself. I will call you to discuss.

"especially since you have no clue what I do or not in my personal time to help the club members."

Rogger,
Club members is different than the club. You were VP before, if I undestand right the VP is responsible to procure the speakers for the meetings. Please let the members know what you accomplished and how you helped as the VP?

"I think it is not up to you or any one person to make that decision, it should be a club members decision through vote to decide who should lead the club next year."

Exactly why I think you are supposed to descreetly ask who wants to volunteer for the board, then after that let everybody know who is interested. NOT, ask for nominations and show who you have before you get any more. This will likely deter others who have an interest in serving on the Board in a Executive or General Position.

At this point in time I would like the nominees that you have shown explain what they have done for the club and what their qualifications are to run in the capacity the committe has chosen.

Chris,
As past president, how many board meetings have you attended this year? How did you help the club?

Rogger,
The same questions please except how many meetings. You can let us know how many board meetings if you would like.

Julio,
Since this is not the Julio that was at the last board meeting. I am not sure who this is since Chris did not state it clearly. I would like to know who this is and how you can help the club and how you have helped the club in the past.

I am not trying to pick a fight but I was at the last board meeting as I have been at many others and want the members to be aware of all the nominees and who they are. I knew of one other person that was interested in President but I am not sure if they will come forward now.

Sorry. I hope this doesn't turn into that, but the internet is a very volatile place...

Perhaps this thread should be closed and a in-person meeting should be arranged for all of those interested in the positions within our community so past and current volunteers can get together to figure out where we're going and whose taking us there?

Just trying to help.

Why should this thread be closed?

I know Chris, Rogger and I think, Julio.

I just think there needs to be some openess and clarification in this. I also want anybody that is interested to get a chance.

I may have come off as harsh in the first post but I still consider them friends.

Matt, contrary to your opinion the Club Members are the club!
The selection process should be open to the public, (not "discreetly ask")
It is appreciated that you have this much enthusiasm and have attended all the meetings, I am sad and puzzled that your energy is so negative, as I've told you before I will be more than happy to talk with you over the phone if you wish, in the meantime I suggest that you nominate a candidate of your choice and move along with the process as I am pretty sure that the club members are not interested in the drama.

I agree and disagree that the members are the club. If helping individual members, but not all the members is helping the club then I stand corrected. But what I meant is, in what capacity did you help the club this year and last? Did you volunteer, did you come to board or regular meetings, did you help with the frag swap or field trips?

The reason it has been and should be done discreetly is that with a group this small, if you do it like you have, then you stop other people from coming forward because they don't want to step on toes. If there is more than one person interested in a position that is great but it should not be made public as to foster non-competition.

My energy is very positive! I think it is very positive that the members will be able to know who is running for positions and what they have been doing for the club. Just because we do not agree on some things does not make this negative. Yes, I am very passionate about the club. I can not serve on the board because I am a commercial member. But I volunteer my time helping the club with frag swaps, attend most board meeetings(as a non voting attendee) and regular meetings, donate corals etc to the auctions and help with the auctions plus much more.

Please, can/will you answer the questions I posted above.

I don't think we need a telephone call between the three of us. I think we can discuss anything we need to here in the open.

I am not even going to go there, about drama. Just please answer the questions.

I will run for President!
That's it I'm not gonna let any of them make me shy away or change my mind.

That's it I've been down and out but not anymore

I am sure there could have been a better way of discussing this...
besides coming on this thread in an agressive manner and turning this thread into a sort of flame war.
Treeman, I am sure you mean well and thank you for everything you do and have done for the club.
Hmmm...But there seems to be a hidden agenda as to why this issue needs to be discussed here and in such an agressive manner.
