Martin Moe = aqualife right wow that's very impressive that he's part of the club.

Ok excellent- All politicians lie so what's gonna make u do that better than anybody else?

I feel anyone with the right vision, dedication, leadership skills and member support could do a good job. I am confident that I posses all of the above.

I am curious if people all of a sudden want to join the club so that they can vote for their buddies?
Will you be coming to meetings now?
If you have come to meetings in the past, why didnt you join then?

Great observation! Wouldn't that be awesome if we can get new members to join and attend the meetings base on friendship, This could potentially increase our attendance next year and probably increase our membership, while encourage a friendly environment. I like the concept!

Lacy, I assume your comments were directed at me. Thanks for judging someones integrity without knowing them. Good Job..

I asked the question simply because I did not know the process for joining this club there was no arterial motive involved. I have not been to any meetings and probally would not go to many in future because of my very busy business schedule. I have opened up my house to club members during the latest tank hop. I enjoyed it and thought this club is something I could get involved in by supporting the club through my dues and attending meetings when possible.

However reflecting on the tone of this thread you people clearly have issues to deal with and I do not want to deal with those type of issues.I will continue to enjoy this great hobby from a far and hope to continue making new friends to exchange ideas and successes.

This is very inpsiring!

Is'nt that what clubs are about to recruit members- I guess I miss the pomt here.

Yes u do want your friends to join so the club gets bigger and stronger.

Tony I agree 100% I have a busy life and more often than not can't deal with stuff like this thus I don't usually frequent meetings and so forth- comments like this make me realize that its not worth it at times, but then again I've dealt with many nice people in this forums and club that makes it all worth it.

Wow, I think this went far enough, lets stop now. Please let's not involve politics and feelings into this, the club is all about learning, sharing your knowledge, making new friends and having fun! Lots of fun!
Politics, Race and Religion believes have no place in the club discussions, lets keep focus in the real agenda.

I'm glad Manny approached the not frequenting meetings. I love being part of the club, and I would definitely run for positions or volunteer more if I were around, but I'm up at school. Although I usually get to go to only 2-3 meetings a year because those are when I'm home, when I do go to the meetings I have a great time and get to know people, learn new things, and gain further appreciation of the hobby. I feel that my membership fees are worth it for those 2-3 meetings and the frag swap(s). There are also things like access to the club library, possible club discounts at stores that many of us frequent, and I'm sure there are also other benefits that I've missed.

People are starting to confuse politics with practice. I do care about the direction of the club, but people are starting to suggest that someone joins a club to make a vote on that club's direction even they have no desire in seeing the end result. That's silly, and I don't think anyone has that idea in mind. Some of us might not be able to attend every meeting or event, or even a few meetings or events, but as long as we care about the direction the club is going, care about the meaning of the club, and care about who is leading it, then people will continue joining the club and supporting the club regardless of their attendance at meetings or events.

This is exactly what the club should stay away from, members discouraging people that are willing to contribute from joining, I do not know you but heard about you and your system this club needs members like you and whatever little time you can give will help change the club's culture. Like in all mass numbers the club has the complainers, the negative, the average and the outstanding members; I assure you that 90% of the ones you will meet are in the outstanding category unfortunately the other 10% percent make the most notice.
I am sure at the start of this thread the furthest thing in mind was monopolize the elections and then Matt's comment never meant to offend anyone just a reaction to change on a previous agreement, it did get a little personal but I hope no one feels hurt just a heated conversation between friends. I joined the club in Miami years ago and disconnected after the move to Broward to later join again due to a heated RC conversation about the move with someone I never meet that person was Robert way back when he was president ironically he was the first one to greet me and shake my hand on my first meeting back.
I decided my call is not to judge or measure other member’s contribution but to give my best each time I have an opportunity putting the interest of the club first instead of personal pride or ego.

The way to join is explained here http://www.fmas1955.org/join_fmas.php

My question is the following then.

Do I have to be a member to go to a meeting?

If I paid now doe sit last for a year from payment or just till decemeber 31st [the site seems to infer the rest of the year only], which is silly to pay for less then 2 months.

Jeff

Hey ReefWreak I hope your not like my son up there. To much partying not enough book work. Go say hey to him at PH SIGMA KAPPA and tell him for me to start hitting the books. He is also very knowledgable in this hobby if your tank is up there.

Sorry to get off topic but we could use a little levity (joking)at this point...

if you join at this meeting your membership expires dec. 31st. supposedly now you can pay half price towards the end of the year. I wish it was that way when i joined because i paid once in nov and once in january.

it went to a good cause, and that was a positive change.

Thanks Jess.

I think moving forward they should change that to be your paid full a year from when you submit payment. Yea, its a little more work to keep track of, but it makes no sense the current way.

Tony - “I have opened up my house to club members during the latest tank hop.”

Thanks for doing this. House was beautiful and tank and fish were great.

Tony - “However reflecting on the tone of this thread you people clearly have issues to deal with and I do not want to deal with those type of issues.I will continue to enjoy this great hobby from a far and hope to continue making new friends to exchange ideas and successes.”

Every group is going to have issues. Not everyone agrees with everyone else. That is why there are elections. Also, why would you not go to meetings simply because there are some “issues”? That’s to bad since you will miss out on all the great speakers, auctions, meeting new people, etc. I personally have not really heard of any “issues” going on at the meetings. Maybe there is and I am just unaware of it or maybe because the meetings are for listening to the speakers, auctions, etc. You will never know unless you attend some. The meetings are what you make of them. If there are issues going on and you don’t want to deal with them, then walk away and don’t listen.

“Thanks for judging someones integrity without knowing them. Good Job..”

I am not judging your integrity, I simply asked a few questions! This seems like you are doing that about the members of the club since you state that “I will continue to enjoy this great hobby from a far” simply because there are “issues”.

In what job, family, group, etc are there no “issues”? Not in this world!

Gasman - I think that it would be great for someone to vote for their buddies. I simply asked if they would come to meeting or were they simply joining to vote. Joining simply to vote and not attend meetings or participating in any other way does not really help the club. Sure the numbers look good, their dues contribute to the treasury, but other than that I don’t really see any benefit for the club.

Reefwreck - “but people are starting to suggest that someone joins a club to make a vote on that club's direction even they have no desire in seeing the end result. That's silly, and I don't think anyone has that idea in mind.”

It simply makes me curious as to why people all of a sudden want to join NOW and not 2, 5, 8 months ago? I know that they have been posting on RC for months and have been well aware of the club. Below is a quote from such a person, but others have also inquired about suddenly joining.

Reddawg43 - “I mean woudn't it make sense for the club to allow individuals to become members now for the 2009 year so that they are able to help vote in the Preseident, Vice President, Treasurer...etc.
It is these 2009 FMAS members that the Preseident and so forth would be serving”.

Chris and Rogger
If you 2 are voted in, I hope the ideals and things that you guys have do come to fruition as I am sure these would help the club, but I am curious as to how well you 2 would work together?

Also, when serving in your previous positions, were there things that ya’ll promised to get done if elected back then and then you did not get them done as promised? If so, what were they and why were they not completed?

You know what... Lacy aren't you just joining in on Treeman's bandwagon since you work for him?

Chris and Rogger...Good Luck with the race!
I am done with this issue.

I'll just chime in to say. I don't know enough about the people running for office to make a decision were I a paid member. The reason I was asking about payment was because I am new to the 'marine' part of fishkeeping. Whether I join now, or January I don't care about voting, but just learning more about the hobby, so yea, I'd attend meetings as often as I could.

Even though there might be some fighting in this thread, overall I think everyone seems nice, and is out to help each other in this hobby we all love.

I have absolutely no doubt that Rogger and I would work very well together. Rogger and I have not and most likely will not agree on everything, but both want to see the club move in the same direction.

I can't think of any promises I made and did not keep in past years.

This year I promise to have the year's schedule outlined and posted by February, I promise that more emails and communication will be given to the club members, and I promise to do my dardest to listen to what the club members want.

However reflecting on the tone of this thread, YOU PEOPLE...
What do you mean, you people?

Reddawg - What a dumb comment and crazy ideal! My opinions are MY opinions and have absolutely nothing to do with anyone else. Besides, if you go back and read Treemans post, his is totally different than mine.

Chris - Thanks for the info.

Also, I forgot to post earlier that my questions apply to anyone running for office, not just Rogger and Chris.
I posted these questions since in our election, the person running for president does not get to pick his/her running mate!

It is important that whom ever is elected be it Chris, Ty, Rogger or anyone else that might want to run, that they will be able to work together with the other person. I have seen clubs where some of the elected officials do not get along and it is a bad thing for the club.
Just something to think about for the people running.

I am done with this thread. I will be at the meeting to vote.

Renee, I guess someone is fueling your fire cause I don't remember you been around when Chris and I started running the club but if need to know I can tell you that Chris and I have bump heads a few times, he has come across as arrogant in some occasions and even rude, however, I have never met anyone with the integrity, dedication, sincerity and love for this hobby and the club as Chris Little and for that I respect him and admire him.
I've asked Chris to help me this year with the club, I would not have even consider running for president with anyone else but him.

When we were running the club back in '07 I did not go through all this nonsense and scrutiny so there were really no promises made and I sincerely don't remember anything left behind that was not done, I will need some clarification on what exactly do you mean so please go ask and get back to me.

Also I am going to ask you to please stop getting in arguments with members and potential members as it reflects as if we are a bunch of immature adults among the thousands of people that read this threads daily.

Your attitude is really not necessary or welcome, please remember this is a Hobby! and we are here to have fun, I have been nothing but nice to you and you don't even know Chris so there is no reason for you to question him or myself the way that you have.

if I didn't know better you will think we are going to be paid for this position, but the truth is that we are doing this strictly as volunteers.

You should be happy and thankful that some one is wiling to do it and if you feel that you are better capable of doing the job then nominate your self for the position and run, otherwise please lets respect each other.
