Forrest's Reef Tank Build

Woo that filter sock helped a ton! Totally clear now! Just waiting for the ammonia spike to really kick the cycle off, idk how long that will take as I put 4 shrimp in there. Pics:

Looks like a good start to me! ;)

Since you used all live rock, I wouldn't be too surprised if you don't see any ammonia/nitrite spike. The liverock can house enough bacteria after the die off to still be able to hold a cycle. But of course, you still want to wait for the tank to get a full established cycle before putting livestock in.

Again, it's a good start. Keep it up!

I'm sure there wasn't much die off on the rock it was out of a tank for less then 30 minutes, secondly how long usually does it take with shrimp to see a jump In ammonia?

You can't really give a definite answer about the ammonia. It varies greatly with amount of water, temperature, amount of shrimp etc. So, I don't know :)
But it could be any where between a few hours to a couple days.

Sorry, I hate how sometimes tapatalk doesn't post pictures correctly. And I am too lazy to copy and paste and it makes it easier for others to see it later on! lol

Looking good my friend. I never tried the shrimp test. I let the thing go until it was all 0ppms and then added a fish. From there I let it build its bacteria according to the bio load I put in.

Thanks man, yeah well I haven't tested this evening yet, the shrimp are all definitely falling apart lmao I think they are floating into the rock work though so ill need to find them before they decay to much. I had them in a Bowl but they floated out.

Once your bacteria are most likely all in you rock and filter you can turn the protein skimmer back on. A few days should be good.

Rock work looks open right now. I had 2 arches in my tank until yesterday. I took EVERY rock out and re-did the scape. Now its one long rock ledge with a TON of ins and outs for the fish and more places to put corals. Also gives a good depth look. The right side is a little closer to the glass than the left and it really gives off a cool look. I will post a pic when everything wakes up.

How many shrimp did you put in? The bacteria in your tank may be processing the ammonia.

That's what I'm thinking, I put 4 in and felt that would be enough. However kimberli (my lady) tested for me this morning, figured she needs to learn too! Lol, and it's showing 0ppm on both rites and rates. If still no spike by Saturday I am going to dose pure ammonia.
