Forrest's Reef Tank Build

Good evening everyone!!!! So weekend update! 60 percent change in the QT Tank. Doing an 18 gallon change on the DT now. And more fun got one of my favorite coral today! A branching hammer! The perfect coloration too! I love it. Also got a poor almost dead acan from petco for a few dollars because I'm going to try and save it. Pics!

Wow your tank is really coming along!

Mine is doing good. My mom surprised me with an Ocellaris Clownfish that she named Valentino. Also some hermits and an emerald crab.

The new zoas there that I got are some pinks, some orange Palys, a mix with green and yellow mouths and some purples. Love love love frags. I'm and addict.

Thanks! Can't wait to get my lights ordered Wednesday! Also fun finding the bubble I rescued is doing amazing and has two mouths! Also random but I thought was nuts, saw a bristle worm last night that was approx 5.5 inches long! I don't mind bristle worms so i just thought it was cool.
 
Got my salifert tests today, mag is 1260 or 1290 still to low, alk is 7.8 also to low and cal is good at 440, going to get kent m and Kent dkh and some pickling lime tomorroe, also did another water change on the curing rocks!
 
Woohoo! Big day! Thelma and Louise the purple fire fish officially went in the tank today!
Also attempting to save my bros clown fish so we put him in the quarantine to medicate.

Turns out he was she so now its valentina. She didn't know your supposed to buy two at a time if you ever want to have more than one. So I have a good story about that. My great Ocellaris clownfish story

I did some fraging of my corals because there were two polyps that had no room in this crack. So I moved them to a nice big flat rock so they can spread all over it! There where also a few loose ones that I attached to other rocks.
 
Forrest's Reef Tank Build

Playing late night chemist after a day of dosing, I dosed fluval mag, just about 60ppm at 1330 this afternoon. Dosed 65ml of fluval Alk about 45 minutes ago to bring that up. Going to start kalk tomorrow!

Late night readings!
Thankfully my stuff came up like I wanted!
SG 1.025
Alk 8.6 salifert
Mag 1300 (may be 1320 or 1310) salifert
Cal 425 salifert
PH. Bit of a swing from the Alk dose but still great at 8.2.

All and all pretty darn glad. The Alk is a tad high but seemed to be very low yesterday at 7.6 so one dKh raise for a day is safe. I'm sure it will drop tomorrow by at least a half. I'm going to start top off water being kalkwasser. Also love feeling like a chemist with these salifert tests =P

Thoughts? Criticisms? Opinions?
 
Sunday funday update! Spending money when I shouldn't be lol =P finally got a brute can! 32 gallon. Taped the DIY lid down on the tank. Got a 5 gal hd bucket and pickling lime, currently making kalk. And more fun wise Thelma and Louise (Kim named them =P ) are out exploring and swimming around instead of hanging in the back!!! Also made my first attempt at fragging last night on a mushroom, cut him into 4 and put them on plugs with mesh over them!

Spending money IKR. You know whats really tempting is when you have a 55 that you got for $160, you check craigslist, there is a 100 for $80, and ur broke! I found a 55 gallon plasic drum on there to but again broke lol.

I did some of my fist attempt the other day with my zoas. There where two polyps of a different type of zoa in a crack with no where to grow. So I got it out and put it on a flat rock with lots of room. I can't wait till I see a third polyp growing.
 
Well isn't that a biz natch =/ monti eating nudi on my undata. Which is a bummer cuz I loved him but I'm not going to risk the tanks future I pulled him out and experimented with him with a massive and still going FW dip. He smelled really bad already so I'm assuming he's really losing even though the recession isn't horrible. The issue is he was right next to my red playing monti, I'm going to take it out and clean it and put it in my bros tank or something so my tank can sit fallow for a while of montis.

Well good news update! I got another royal gramma for Kim on Saturday, he's been in QT and as of 10 minutes ago is now officially eating!! So thankful for that! Also got some awesome pink zipper Palys from my little bro that he popped off of his colony he scored last week!
