So do fish just get ****y now and again like people do? I had a regular foxface probably like 6" now maybe 7" and fat. I purchased a magnificant foxface and the regualr one chased him around and he hid for two weeks. I thought he was a gonner but he came out ate and they have been buddies for like 4-5 months now. Just a few days ago the magnicant was hiding again and looked like the other one was keeping an eye out for him. Well that was just two days and now today they are hanging out again like buddies.

IME, Foxfaces becomes aggressive as they mature. I have of some experiences that if they feel crowded they have the potential of just freaking out.

In the wild all rabbitfish form pairs, even mixed species. It's primarily for mutual protection. While one grazes the other watches out for predators.
I don't know if this will work in a home size reef tank with no predators around and being able to pick food from the water column instead having to pick it out of deep crevices.

All of my fox face have always been pretty peaceful. I have only had one with a copper band butterfly and other non related species, but not another fox face.

Same. It helps that mine is the biggest fish in the tank, so no one messes with him. He keeps my kole tang in check every now and then.
