Franky's macro shots

Franky.... If you would, I'd like to see you post some before and after shots with the color corrections so I can refer people to them for information on WB (white balance).

Not my best but thought id post some attempts at using the flash, here goes nothing

Jordan, Aaron, Misled any of you guys with more experience taking flash pics of moving fish i will gladly take any tips you may be willing to share. Thanks in advance.

Not sure about anyone else, but there's a sweet spot when using the flash I find, it's more of a waiting game in which you have to let the fish be in the right area to get the best results. You using the flash from above?

Nice shots Franky!

I don't use the flash when shooting fish... Aaron seems to have it mastered though, and then some. I plan on trying when I have a bit more time.

Very nice Franky!

I particularly like the first shot. I might have cropped a bit tighter bringing the upper right corner in some.

That one super fat tentacle on the left in pic 2 in awesome.

A number of the shots look a bit dark to me, but if that's how you like 'em, rock on.

Thanks, I take most of my pictures a little but far away so that I can take in the whole colony for growth progress journaling lol. In my next batch I'll go in tighter into the polyps

That fat tentacle cracks me up, sort of like hell boy with one giant hand lol

Some of the shots do look dark on my phone after I posted them. I think a lot had to do with the monitor. I use a Mac when editing my pictures and I think my screen is really bright and it tends to my images look washed out and when I adjust the contrast brightness and black levels to what I like on screen it looks darker on other screens. Perhaps a monitor calibration is in order lol. Some though I purposely wanted the dark kind of contrasty mood or tone.

Awesome work!

Early on in this thread Jesse responded with a comment in response to your saying you had found a combination of shutter and aperture that results in inky black backgrounds. I can't figure out how to quote a quote plus response but it's on page 1 March 12th.

I'd love to understand this...

I think it was actually misled who told me so about the settings I forget exactly it's kind of trial and error but probably a faster shutter speed and smaller aperture combination along with distance between subject to background that aided in blacking out the background

I tried picking an aperture (I think it was around f16) and increased the shutter speed a few times (i.e. I tried 30, 60, 125 at f16 in manual mode) from what the camera picked. All I got was lower exposure overall. Not sure I understand the concept...
